Cantiro is looking at constructing townhomes and single-family homes in an area bordering neighbouring Borden Park. Preliminary design plans call for the Cantiro homes to possibly have a modern Nordic architectural feel.

Cantiro also said for this initial phase it is looking at close to 200 lots and that this would be in a three- to four-year timeline. Cantiro said it’s possible it could start construction next year, however, the city said it anticipates residential construction will start in late 2026 or early 2027. The city also said land where the coliseum now sits — it will be demolished; it’s anticipated demolition and abatement will begin in the first part of next year and be wrapped up by the end of 2027 — is currently identified for residential development.

What is "Nordic" looking architecture? Ian, aren't your buddies down in YYC building something called an "Alpine Village" or something in the world famous "U District?" So maybe it's a "thing?"

^ Link didn't work for me but that's the RFP notification for demo and siteworks of the Coliseum site. Looks like they're hoping to select a contractor by December and the contract will run ~36 months in length.

It's a two-parter: First phase is the validation phase, then the city may negotiate a contract for design/demolition/construction of an outdior event space that's grass or gravel, with a completion date in 2027.

Wait, an outdoor event space at the Coliseum site for K-Days would be AWESOME! It means the festival would be closer to a relocated Coliseum Station (the one placed further north), it faces the front side (the MUCH nicer side) of the Expo Center and it keeps the noise away from the existing and new housing. Only drawback is being further from Klondike Park, but I wonder if that could be moved north?

"The Exhibition Lands Planning Framework was approved by Council in 2021 and did not allocate event space that would allow for things like K-Days to continue onsite. Council recently directed the Real Estate team to explore the impacts to the approved Planning Framework if the City were to allocate event space within the redevelopment area. In order to understand these impacts, the City contracted Urban Strategies Inc. (USI) to study the site, local market conditions and the needs of the Expo Centre.

As part of their work, USI prepared four potential scenarios comprising different land use elements. These scenarios were presented at two workshops with the intention of gathering perspectives on the elements within the scenarios as well as opportunities and trade-offs from the various options, from interested parties. While many of those interested parties include people from different areas within the City who have shared interests with Exhibition Lands, we also wanted to make sure we heard from external groups including representatives from Concordia University, the Alberta Avenue Business Association and the various community leagues that represent the surrounding communities.

During April & May 2025, engagement with key interested parties both internal and external to the City was undertaken to gain feedback and inform the course of the Edmonton Exhibition Lands project."

The rest of the page has a bullet-point "what we heard" summary for the various options considered, but it doesn't seem to actually say what those scenarios are.

I was literally going to ask. Does anyone know exactly what is going on this site? They have torn up the parking lot and soccer field on the west end of Borden Park but there is no development sign posted.

I believe administration told the previous council that they're starting utility work this year, and the builder will start next year. I could be remembering wrong though.
