High on my wishlist for this station is the elimination of that narrow stairway up to Queen Street from The Bay (SW corner). That nook is always full of trash and the occasional homeless person and the stairs smell like piss. It's just a terrible subway entrance.

Apple Maps captures this perfectly:

With Cadillac Fairview regaining possession of the Simpson's building, I hope they enclose this and move the station entrance into the building in what could become the lobby of the new Eaton Centre south wing with easy access into what looks to become a new PATH concourse and the subway station on that floor.

Has anyone come across a floorplan for this station? I've only seen a vertical cross section. I imagine the connection between the Eaton Centre and The Bay down to the station will have to transform substantially to accommodate the kind of traffic that's generated by an interchange station. That little landing and the above mentioned stairs cannot handle that kind of volume.

With construction expected to last into the 2030s, anyone know if we'll get a better connection from the existing Queen station to the new / temporary 501 westbound streetcar stop on Richmond? Currently the Path doesn't allow you to exit from the old Bay onto Richmond St. So either you go outside at the Eaton Centre or you go further south in the Path and exit on the south side of Richmond away from the streetcar stop - either seems quite confusing for the average transit user. This doesn't seem to make sense in the long term...

They’re essentially done with dirt excavation. Now they’re breaking bedrock. Full depth and spoil removal is expected to be reached in March so we’re months away from beginning to see concrete being poured to build the station box. Things should get a lot more interested by then if they keep the pit open.

What on Earth gave you that impression?
The December CLC would suggest a phase being completed early 2026 but that is not full depth of excavation.

This more recent update sheds some light as well:
As shown in this video, the excavation is paused at the bottom of piles level which is about one third of the station total depth. The design of the deeper levels is currently in limbo. To avoid delaying the TBM lauch which is a major milestones set in the contract, they plan to stop the TBM at Osgoode shaft once it gets there for a half journey maintenance check before continuing with the assumption that Queen design issue is resolved and excavation is finished by that time.
Queen shaft design ask for inclined retaining walls once it hits the bedrock (below piles) to expand the width and accomodate 2 separate tunnels. This is due to the confined surroundings where they can not excavate straight down from street level as in other stations shaft.
There are concerns after contractor's internal audit (overlaying european standards, not required in contract) that the angle of these walls are too agressive and poses potential risk. So now they are trying to justify the design by going back and refining the inputs, and at the same time working on an alternative design and assess the impact of this change.

I dunno, maybe a Metrolinx Engineer on their official account saying they’ve completed soil excavation and now hit rock? 🤔

The other part:

Full depth of soil would be correct. Spoils refers to the rock being removed as well, which will continue for 20+ additional metres of depth.
so we’re months away from beginning to see concrete being poured to build the station box.
The video does not say this and it would still be hard to believe if any engineer had said this.
Truly putting the cart before the horse.
