And here we go with another transit line in Ontario being slowed down do to tight turns/ curves in the alignment.
Let's list all the future rail transit projects that will probably experience something similar.
- Line 1 extension to Richmond Hill
- Bowmanville GO extension, GM plant spur
- Hamilton LRT, Dundurn st.
- Mississauga downtown loop
I hope the curves for the Ontario line are not too tight for the Hitachi trains. Specifically where the line runs between East Harbour and Exhibition.
Why does Metrolinx and Ontario transit planners not seem to understand that "trains + hard turns = bad"?
Look at the state of the Confederation line in Ottawa with the tight curves damaging the rolling stock.
Look at how slow Line 6 is when approaching and leaving Humber College.

Teach them to fish them. Tell them which two schedules they need to compare to answer the question.
Don't just tell them they should go fish.

Half of all GO rail lines have express trains on them. I'm sure they found the answer just fine on their own.

Well not every train line has to be perfectly straight to be successful... It is more of a factor of rolling stock. The TR handles Line 1 just fine, and they'll do fine in RH. The Flexitys do fine on the ION (albeit slowly, but I'm confident nothing would happen if they bumped the corner speeds up by 5km/h). I haven't heard of the GO trainsets having issues with curves. I am concerned with the Line 10 loop and the Hamilton LRT though if they go with the Citadis and not the Flexity. That isn't to say we should try to have curves on our rapid transit lines, but it is not the end of the world.

Not yet, just wait till the Bowmanville extension is complete. Tightest turn in the GO network.
For the sake of not entirely derailing this thread. If the plan for the UPX is to add more stops and slow the trains down even more in the approach to Pearson, then why are we still being charged a premium to ride this train? There's really nothing "Express" about the UPX anymore.

It's completely unclear what on earth they're talking about. Is the question whether UP Express trains skip UP Express stations? Or UP Express trains skipping GO stations? Or just express trains in general? All of those questions can be answered by looking at GO/UPX schedules and given that none of us even know what they were actually looking for, it makes most sense for them to just look it up themself.
FYI the UP Express operates on a GO rail line between Wice and Union station so you need to look at the Kitchener GO schedule to determine whether UP Express trains skip GO stations (e.g. Etobicoke North). That is clearly relevant, so that's another failed attempt at gaslighting on your part.

There will be no tight curves for the OL since Hitachi has already lines in service and specific what curves should be. From our trip on a Hitachi system in Copenhagen, the curves where smooth both on the surface and underground.
The elevated line slow the UPX down to/from the airport with sweeping curves. The rest of UPX lines is government by the GO system.

I'm not aware of any UP express trains. I don't believe they were asking about GO or VIA services.
You could simply have answered that "all UP trains currently stop at all stations along the line except Etobicoke North", instead of sending someone to figure out they need to consult 2 schedules, and which one they are. Or you could have taught them how to Fish, and at least point out how many schedules they need to check from which operators.
But even then, they wouldn't have had their answer, as the PDF schedule linked from the UP Express doesn't include Mount Dennis! website - https://www.upexpress.com/en/up-express-stations/pearson-station/departures-and-schedules
From your advice, a reasonable person who doesn't ride it regularly would assume that it doesn't stop at Mount Dennis!

There is some nuance here, Metrolinx failed to update the pdf linked at the bottom of the page for Pearson & Bloor station. For all stations, the pdf linked middle of page is accurate and has been since Mount Dennis opened last Fall. (I checked the site shortly after opening day and rode it). Also the train I was on didn't have noticeably excess dwell times, but was still 2 minutes late to Pearson.
UP Express not as punctual as it was before Mt. Dennis was added? Anyone else have this experience?

I must say, the last time I took UP to the airport, I found the ride very rough. Not sure if it is a winter thing, but must admit, it was a little disconcerting.
