How much of a buffer is there for the landing path? Usually planes (coming from the south) are approaching over Dover. That has to be at least a couple of KM from These towers and the rest of downtown. Not sure I’ve ever seen a plane landing coming even close to DT??? Occasionally they takeoff and cut over the Beltline.

I really dislike this view. The towers look like a blob with no definition and the corner balconies halfway up give it a very weird shape. I also think the orientation of the swoopy crown makes it look squatter and less dramatic.

In all fairness the towers aren’t true proportions. In real life they would be slimmer.

What makes you so sure? Is the point of a rendering not to sell you a more attractive vision of what is being proposed vs what gets built in reality?

I think that image is the view from a very specific location. That looks like Memorial? As you travel even slightly East or West, the overlap of the buildings would look very different. It's not going to look amazing from every angle, and frankly I don't think that rendering looks that bad either.

Looking at a comparison to Nuera tower which is 28m wide compared to Stampede Station which 38m wide, I've made what should be roughly 38m of width from this view point. They'll still be somewhat blobish, but thankfully will be more slender than the render shows it. The render shows a pretty accurate of what the height will loook like, but they'll be more slender.

I assume you are looking at the Wikipedia page, which is pretty inaccurate, and depends on your definition of "hotel". The Burj Khalifa (tallest) has a hotel inside, Merdeka 118 (second tallest) also has a hotel inside. Shanghai Tower (third tallest) also has a hotel. Pretty much all of the tallest buildings built in the last couple decades have a hotel component, so the W wouldn't be anywhere near 17th globally. In Canada, the New 1 Bloor West and Pinnacle both have a hotel inside, and they're in the 350m range.

Those are mixed use, not hotel specific developments.
 
The W/JW in Calgary is also residential, not a pure hotel. Or I guess if you are referring only to building with the hotel's name on it, then Calgary's ranks pretty highly.
 
The Wikipedia list is pretty up to date, but the list is only covering buildings that are over 80% hotel. Our JW will be less than 80%, so it won't be on the list, but otherwise it would be on the list at roughly 17th. It's also possible the towers residential portion may be long stay units, that are often considered as hotel suites?

It's pretty atypical to have W/JW long stay units, it's just cost prohibitive. Some hotels will do a combination where half of it is a short stay and portion of it is long-stay, but usually it's branded differently, like Courtyard vs Residence Inn, or Hyatt Place vs Hyatt House. Pretty sure Truman will want to sell them as branded condos but how much demand they get will likely determine how they split the units
