And further more..I said Sex Worker. Period. I did not say prostitute. That's in your own head. Escorts get paid on the premise they "might" have sex with the payor. I never said anyone did. But being a part of selling the illusion of sex is still sex work.

You don't get to decide what the definition of sex worker is. It's commonly understood that it refers to a prostitute. By that loose definition a Hooters waitress is a sex worker.

I think we keep getting away from the fact that, paid or not, Rob was partying with a young pretty woman that was not his wife. End of.

I don't care what the accepted P.C definition is but if your only role is to prop up your tits to sell Product A and especially when the only product is your tits..you're a sex worker.
OK, so are Hooters servers sex workers? Are lingerie models? These are straightforward questions, and should be easy for you to answer, right?

It took them five hours to shoot and eight to edit?

The poor soul who got that editing assignment should receive hazard pay. I've edited for broadcast and even the worst, fresh off the street "talent" didn't require anywhere near that much work.

I want to see "The Making of Ford Nation" so badly now.

Yes, the issue is the morality of Rob's behaviour, and not that of his female companion.

(And of course prostitution is legal in Canada, so it's not clear that even if she were a prostitute, he would have been doing anything criminal.)

Of course, a live show wouldn't have those problems -- I wonder why SNN was so gun-shy about just turning a camera on and let Rob be Rob. Perhaps they were worried about liability?

God, I would pay money to see the raw footage. EIGHT hours to edit together a half hour of two guys chit-chatting at a desk and answering softballs from extremely friendly interviewers? Sun could be sitting on "Ford Nation: The Director's Cut", the greatest comedy of all time!!

I just watched a news video of Norm Kelly, in which Kelly responded unscripted to press questions.

Not that I subscribe entirely to Kelly's ideologies, but here are some observations:

-he's articulate
-he answers in measured sentences and smiles easily, is at ease with himself and with his interviewers -- can handle the public, no problem
-he even looks mayorish if conservative is what you're going for.

In short, this will be a welcome change from Ford, such as things go.

This whole debacle leaves me wondering all over again … I mean, we ended up with a nauseating bit of barf in the mayor's chair three years ago. How on earth does an electoral system allow for that to happen when there are actually viable people who could obviously do a decent job ?? Still scratching my head here in Cabbagetown… we seriously have to look at things post-Ford.

I know, just breathe.

Ledrew mentioned that cp24 received word that the video was filmed in February. Rob said he probably smoked crack about a year ago while in a drunken stupor but doesn't remember it. Soooo.....if Rob can't remember actually hitting the pipe, who told him that he indeed smoked crack?

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=sex+worker

1. sex worker
More neutral or sympathetic alternative to prostitute, whore. Frankly offering sex for money is seen as either a necessary or acceptable job, parallel to (say) factory work, and no stigma or sneer of contempt should be attached to its practitioners.
"Sex workers of the world unite, you have nothing to lose but your chains (unless you are happy wearing them)"

Different people have different notions of what "sex work" or the "sex industry" entails. Does anything actually turn on this question?

At present, we know AK probably takes her clothes off for money, and that's all we know.

Can't make escargot from excrement.

Seriously, I'm unclear as to the distinction you're making. Sure, some folks may think of Victoria's Secrets models as more "classy" in some way than women who hawk raffle tickets in skimpy clothes, but there are plenty of women who have jobs that require them to dress in sexy outfits. Are Hooters servers sex workers? Are the "booth babes" at car shows and conventions sex workers? What are the criteria here?

Sex worker is the preferred term for anyone working in the sex industry. That includes strippers, cam girls, Dommes, and escorts. You can still be a sex worker and never touch, have sex with your client, or even get naked. Sex worker is an umbrella term used by individuals and advocacy groups to fight for sex worker rights and reduce stigma.

But it's also up to the individual to decide how they want to be labelled. Some strippers, cam girls, and nude models don't want to be called sex workers.

It's unfortunate that A's legal name and address was made public because of the stigma associated with sex work. Even if you're accused of being sex worker when you aren't.
