Sad that they're forcing an express route on yet another street where this means worsening local frequency beyond 10 minutes. Doubly sad in this case because the 135 stops short of the subway and the 109 isn't being beefed up to compensate.

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

Theoretically a train every two hours across the whole line together with short trips between Kitchener and Guelph for roughly hourly service on that section. A couple of trains would have to skip Georgetown to account for the offset between local and express slots. Of course still with gaps...

    Roads: Traffic Signals

Interesting, didn't know that was being planned. Might turn out counterproductive in some places depending on queues and how long the current right turn lanes are.

Wouldn't right turn arrows be a good thing for bus queue jumps, especially at cramped intersections? With a bus detected, a right turn arrow could clear the turn lane letting the bus reach the intersection while the circular red would keep through traffic stopped so the bus can merge back in.

CN seems to really like painting itself into corners. Three main tracks west of the plant and two east of it, but only one through it?

The "new" 10:34 trip from Malton is actually a regression, as it replaces the 10:22 from Bramalea. Makes for a new one-hour gap at Bramalea from 9:56 to 10:58, right before the existing one-hour gap at all stations.

Finally went through all of the changes. 5 Dixie: weekday peak from 12 to 14 minutes (EDIT h/t Toffy: -1 bus AM, +1 bus and runtime increase PM), peak periods shortened by ~3h in total early evening from 25 to 19 minutes (+2ish buses) 8 Cawthra: weekday midday from 33 to 36, Saturday from 48...

I haven't checked the other routes but the Dixie "improvement" is an outright lie. Currently it has 12 buses, 12-minute frequency at peak, after the changes it has 11 buses, 14-minute frequency. EDIT: this is correct for AM peak only, h/t Toffy

Doors on regional trains in Germany, Austria and Switzerland usually reopen with the slightest obstruction and cycle with no apparent limit (I've seen up to 8x). In practice after a few cycles the crew barks out an admonishment over the PA and people step back. Some long-distance equipment, such...

The person could have well been a tourist from a place where train doors are as forgiving as elevator doors and trains don't leave a minute before the published schedule.

I have to say I'm skeptical about the new track through Weston being very useful in the short term. Though it would make space for Kitchener trains to move off UPX tracks *at* Weston, it seems that together with the track layout and service pattern in other places, this would actually result in...

I wonder what the deal is with Georgetown. As far as I can tell, there's only about 0.35 mile of yard track, and the rest of the slowness is on bonded track built to mainline standards. Couldn't much of this be fixed just by tinkering with the signals? For example, letting westbound trains...

IIRC they'll be widening the platform to the south, to prepare for the new pocket track to be added as part of OnCorr.

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

I was hoping the new main track (old service track) through Malton would allow for a better PM eastbound schedule, without the 1.5 hour gap to let VIA 87 through. With the current layout at Wice, though, the new track (blue) can't be accessed from the east without reversing, and the...

    VIA Rail

The connection did work until recently, both from 70 to 84 and the other way. 70 was cancelled for the initial lockdown in March 2020 and wasn't restored until this September. Meanwhile, speeds on the Guelph sub dropped further. If I'm not mistaken, 84's last on-time arrival in Toronto was...
