GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

There’s an issue of recognizing mutual benefit . This is a case where there ought to be a meeting in the, er, middle. If CPKC and GO each had one track thru that tunnel, it would be a pyrrhic (sp?) victory for both, because clearing GO off CP’s route would not materially improve CP’s business...

Cycling: West Toronto Railpath (City of Toronto, Phase II Proposed)

At the risk of sounding ungrateful.... there will be high barriers and at best plexiglass in the way, so not really a boon to trainspotters or photographers. But it may actually be high enough to provide some nice cityscape views, so hopefully a pleasant venue for all users. Now, if they build...

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

Count the number of cranes, excavators, booms, and similar tall work equipment that are in operation along the expansion projects. Consider how much paperwork and safety training would be required to perform all that work under live wires. And how many service disruptions would be required...

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

True - but how many years has ML been working on upgrading the Niagara Falls spur? And where did its funding go? There is a huge inconsistency between announcing these services and investing to enable them for success. Niagara may be out of the woods, but Stratford is at risk unless it can be...

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

For what it's worth, the video of the missing window clearly shows that it is an emergency exit window, which is entirely within the average person's ability to open and remove if they felt the need (or perverse urge) to do so. The video shows the window and its rubber gasket and emergency...

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

I can't imagine the practicality of building whole stations and adding additional tracks under energised catenary. Electrification has to wait for track, signalling, and stations to be in place before it can be added. Now, am I happy with the speed of completing all that track and those...

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

That is most certainly what should have happened, had staff discovered or had been made aware. We don't know how this transpired however. - Paul

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

Is there a non-paywall link to the article? Certain types of events must be reported to TSB and for the most part they decide whether the matter meets their criteria for investigation. The concept of a major railway asking for TSB's involvement leaves me.... intrigued. - Paul

Toronto Ontario Line 3 | Metrolinx

From the GO train I counted about 20 tunnel liner segments in a pile at the west end of the site today. Couldn’t tell if the conveyor belt was running, but there was no lineup of dump trucks waiting to haul away spoils. I’m guessing they are close but not running yet. - Paul

    Toronto Toronto | King-Liberty GO Station | 21.39m | 3s | Metrolinx | WSP

The work is indeed progressing with crews on site regularly and lots of evidence of conduits being installed, excavations happening and then being closed up, etc. Lots of reason to conclude that this work is getting done. The “safety paperwork” may simply be a contractor that hasn ‘t done...

Dundas West/ Bloor Mobility Hub +interconnected hub network (Metrolinx)

I don't know for sure however I suspect not, as all the wiring and the bungalow would have to be shifted also. Years back, I was led to believe that the signal for the fourth track will be freestanding and ground mounted. - Paul

    Ontario Northland/Northern Ontario Transportation

The inference I took from the images that I posted was that ONR had adopted a generic cookie cutter template for the new stations, presumably based on somebody developing a spec. That in effect anticipated all the amenities that a basic but well designed contemporary station shoukd have - within...

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

There is a huge difference between a volunteer led outfit running antique trains on a limited schedule on 10 mph track and a regular transit service….. the big difference is money. Certainly the Region could make the investment if it saw a need - but the poulation just isn’t there, soi far . - Paul

    Ontario Northland/Northern Ontario Transportation

I’m sure people ride up there, but I would be surprised if they rode them to catch the Northlander and left their bike there for a couple days, yes.

    Ontario Northland/Northern Ontario Transportation

Lifted from FB but very interesting. I chuckled a little at the inclusion of bicycle posts in New Liskeard - how many days will one be leaving one's bike for? but nothing wrong with anticipating and hoping they will come. The point is, the new stations may not be classic, but they clearly...
