Part of the much maligned bike lane design on Bloor in Etobicoke has started construction on restoring the second EB multi-purpose lane for a 500m stretch. But I wonder how the 2nd lane will still drop approaching Islington without resulting in an awkward merge...

It's clear now with all lanes re-opened that the cause of congestion is the limited capacity of the 3 offramps that feed downtown, and this is really only an issue in the morning rush hour and evenings when there are events. As opposed to during construction the work zone acted as a bottle neck...

Ironic that the province will spend $50M+ to speed up Gardiner construction, but this archaeology study will take an entire year. The two projects have similar overall budgets ($300M).

The detour is temporary to partially replace an existing culvert under the Highway 401 westbound lanes that is in very poor condition. The culvert partial replacement was added to the Halton Region Tremaine Road interchange project as it was urgent, otherwise it would have waited for the MTO...

Basically there is no agreement what to do with the STC guideway yet so it's staying up. One option is to maintain it as an active transportation "greenway", similar to something NYC is doing. Aren't there trucks hauling away excavation every day at Sheppard/McCowan?

There is more distance between the 413 EB merge and collector/express start than you might think. Plenty of weaving distance room (about 2.5km). Volume from 413WB to 401EB is relatively low as you might expect. As you mentioned, a lot of 401EB traffic will now be going to 413 EB instead, so...

413 and 407 WB will form a sub-collector westbound, while 401 WB remains on the express lanes, so I don't really see the issue...

Still have to finish the original lanes to put EB traffic on it, then complete the final median (barriers, sewers, lighting, signs, etc.). Maybe Summer/Fall 2025?

There is less spare capacity on 407 during peak hours than you might expect. It is priced to just be on the verge of congestion in the peak hour. I don't think you could add a significant additional volume without it breaking down.
