Man, they should've torn it down and built 3 new towers on such a large site, while incorporating affordable units in it. This is so ugly :(

He might just help bring down the Iranian regime, where they heavily persecute minority groups like gays, so there's that positive, I guess

^Throw in a few 30+ story high-rises and mid-rises, and I'm on board. I'll take a grid layout with ground-level retail any day over an enclosed mall.

    Rumours & Speculation

Both those malls desperately need to be redeveloped, similar to how malls are being rebuilt in Vancouver. A few 4-12-storey buildings on top of a mall with some sort of main street incorporated would be ideal. Right now, the NE, east of Deerfoot, has nothing for main streets

I hope they get going with this and stick to the timelines. The housing market is slowing, and the oncoming glut of Venezuelan crude oil likely doesn't bode well for investing in big projects like this if one is bullish on Calgary.

Maybe we can get a better development on the site

Probably the heating furnaces that keep the workers warm caught a fuel source, like an oil-covered tarp or wood. Most likely will shut down for a few days for a safety review and restart in the new year

Maybe O'Connor's should relocate to DT Hudson's if they want an iconic location. I have no problem with a unique retailer like O'Connor's being situated in the Downtown/Beltline area, but that specific plot of land is highly underutilized, given the location and could have much more to offer...

    Rumours & Speculation

I'm curious as to how the forum found out about the Allies and Morrioson rumour? I couldn't find anything on the internet. Is this just word of mouth?

Idk why Alberta keeps getting these outdated 2000s-looking towers. You rarely see crap like this proposed in Van or Toronto.

The cladding is so bad imo. Giving Soviet.

Hopefully, but still a couple more retail fronts would've been ideal

Man, it was just missing some retail along 2nd Street. Even two shops would've gone a long way; instead, they went for some sterile landscaping with planters. Otherwise, nice building.

I can see 1st SW becoming more prominent, similar to 10th Ave. The streetscape already has a head start on developing into a consistently vibrant corridor — it just needs more residential and mixed-use units in the vicinity, along with continued development expanding south toward 17th Ave.
