    Toronto Toronto | Eglinton Line 5 | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

The worst part about this here isn't just Lali kind of dodging the question but how close Saxe was to asking the right question. The question that should have been asked is if the TTC would institute its streetcar operating practises on the surface section of the line. Saxe had the right idea...

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

Sure but we do need to acknowledge that the subway is slower then the GO Train and while it may only be for a day we really should avoid dumping even more riders onto the subway network, especially during rush-hour when trains are already jam-packed. As well Line 2 is the only east-west route we...

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

Well if there is anything we learned today it is the well known and obvious flaw of the Hub-and-Spoke transit system, especially when there is only 1 hub. If it goes down the whole network falls apart. If there is anything that has been laid bare today it is firstly the need for more hubs where...

    Toronto Toronto | Eglinton Line 5 | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

I recall the SRT having similar issues with "track intrusions" being caused by the use of axle counters. Basically in the fall and winter falling leaves and snow could "fool" the counter into thinking a train was in the area when it wasn't causing the Emergency Brakes to engage. I am almost...

    Toronto Toronto | Eglinton Line 5 | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

If were going to compare to Japan in the case of LRT would the Utsunomiya LRT which opened in 2024 not be a better example? Just some quick facts about it... it is 14.6km with 19 stops and end to end travel time is 44 minutes (46 on holiday schedules). It also has express service which blew my...

    Toronto Toronto | Eglinton Line 5 | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

This might be controversial on this forum but I was thinking in all of this discussion about the end to end travel time of the EC the question needs to be asked, how many people are actually going to be commuting from end to end on this route? The majority of people riding the EC are going to be...

    Finch West Line 6 LRT

Ok hold on that's not at all what happened. Firstly while a Line 2 extension to Scarborough was considered it was quickly shot down after the bill for the 1 stop extension to Kennedy came in. That extension alone cost nearly as much as the extensions to Warden and Islington 12 years prior and at...

    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

Or you know its because they use rubber tire trains so they are susceptible to all the same problems cars encounter in weather like this (skidding on snow and ice in the winter, hydroplaning in the rain).

    Finch West Line 6 LRT

Station/stop construction can create trade offs between high-floor and low-floor LRV's. If you're going to build an LRT line that is entirely grade separated then there is no reason not to use high-floor LRV's (cough, cough Ottawa). Once you add street running into the mix things do get a bit...

    Finch West Line 6 LRT

Well to add to this, it is worth remembering the very first incarnation of Transit City in 2007 was literally just an expansion of the streetcar network. All the lines were supposed to use the same track gauge as the streetcars and use the at the time proposed Flexity Outlook LRV's. If I had to...

    Finch West Line 6 LRT

Genuine question... Does either the EC or FW have any Maintenance of Way vehicles like the subway and streetcar network does? It feels like that would be a massive omission from these lines (and another thing to add to the list of why Metrolinx is the worst thing to happen to transit in the GTA).

    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

I believe you are thinking of Baltimore's new trains. I believe they just purchased the same model that LA, and Miami did. Philly hasn't received their new ones yet and they have a modern-ish design although Atlanta's new trains are the nicest as far as new rolling stock in the US is concerned.

    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

Colour? On my Subway? It's more likely then you think! I wonder if the TR's would get a re-paint in this livery when the go for their mid-life rebuilds in the 2030's.

    Finch West Line 6 LRT

I think it proves two other things. Metrolinx needs to be fully removed from the construction and planning process of transit lines since this is yet another example of them having no clue what they are doing. They used all of the same equipment as the Confederation Line in Ottawa even after...

    Finch West Line 6 LRT

I agree with all of this though I would keep the stop at Sloane/Bermondsey since its 1km from Wynford and 800m from Victoria Park so it would be in line with Line 2's stops spacing. That said Aga Kahn, and Lebovic are by far the worst offenders on the line. If it were up to me I would have also...
