    Rethinking the Entrances to Edmonton

That would be ideal. I recall seeing proposals to address the hairpin when the Walterdale Bridge was replaced, I believe they were 'deferred'. I'm wondering if there wasn't a political appetite for it then, there probably never will be as the engineering challenges are still there and costs are...

    Rethinking the Entrances to Edmonton

I really like the idea, especially the 91 St/109 St combination. If you were wanting to discourage downtown traffic from taking Gateway Boulevard into downtown, maybe the place for two-way conversion would be north of 63 Avenue (ish) in Old Strathcona. Admittedly when when I first saw the...

    Alberta Provincial Politics

It seems like an odd marriage of communities. The Deerfoot Divide is a thing, and the make-up is different east/west of the Bow River.

    Roads, Highways & Infrastructure

Seems like history repeating itself only further south. The Shawnessy interchange was built, with a pre-existing interchange at Hwy 22X, and lights in between at 162 Avenue. IIRC it seemed like a good 10+ years between the Shawnessy and 162 Ave interchanges being built.

    Yellowhead Trail Upgrades

Do you know if there are any ground-level archived photos?

    Yellowhead Trail Upgrades

I'm curious which part of the former Yellowhead section of 118 Ave you're referring to as being unnecessary wide? Hwy 16 followed 118 Ave east of NAIT, most of which is a four lane cross section with no median or additional turning lanes, except for maybe the area immediately around Northlands...

    Yellowhead Trail Upgrades

I thought the METS plan might have been dead (or on life support) by the mid 70s. Isn't Yellowhead Trail a 'Plan B' of METS? There probably wouldn't have been the need for the current Yellowhead Trail alignment had it followed the MacKinnon Ravine, James McDonald Bridge, etc. Assuming Hwy 2...

    Yellowhead Trail Upgrades

Off topic, but I noticed that Calgary Trail didn't transition to 103 / 104 St (that eventually became one way streets) until 51 Ave. It would have been nice if city forefathers would have reserved a ROW to allow free flow up to Whitemud Drive. I don't know if it was too late in 1975, but c'est...

    Roads, Highways & Infrastructure

In my community, I started seeing photo radar on a roadway bordering a school zone after 8 pm, in the middle of February, with temperatures below -20, and not even near to the playground equipment, enforcing the 30 km/h school/playground zone that technically goes until 9 pm. Between the time of...

    Roads, Highways & Infrastructure

I haven't seen people going [straight] through the intersections per se, but I see a lot of drivers running reds for protected left turns.

    Roads, Highways & Infrastructure

Looking at aerial photos might not be the best method, but to your point I think more traffic passed through the Glenmore/Elbow/5 St (known as 'GE5' when the interchanges were constructed) than Crowchild & Kensington. It's harder get traffic counts from 20+ years ago, but according to this...

    Roads, Highways & Infrastructure

"Medium Term " was defined as 10+ years back in 2017. Considering that's a section that should have been done right the first time over 50 years ago, they'll probably go with the +.

Looks like the funding went to adding extra/new structures to the Anderson/Bow Bottom interchange instead.

    Roads, Highways & Infrastructure

I agree that 6 through lanes + merge lanes probably doesn't fit on the existing overpass over Deerfoot, but there are also significant issues with backups at the signals at 4 St NW, Centre St, and Edmonton Tr. While not ideal, an initial phase could be McKnight/JLB could be widened to 6 lanes...

    Roads, Highways & Infrastructure

With north Calgary lacking some good E-W crosstown routes, I'd like to see John Laurie & McKnight Boulevards widened to 6 lanes between Shaganappi & Deerfoot Trails. As for QE2, I agree that those level crossings should be removed. I've noticed that some of road name signs have been taken down...
