    Lilac Park | 20.2m | 6s | Westrich Pacific | J+S Architect

Thank you. Most of the criticism here is not about the height. It is about the design and material choices. Reducing the conversation to “not everything needs to be a high-rise” sidesteps the actual concerns people are raising. Hire a better architect, use quality cladding. The height...

    Edmonton | Tower 101 | 175m | 50s | Regency Developments | DER + Associates

Who would have believed that in 2026 we would still be building new parking lots downtown? ....ok maybe most of us. It is easy to believe that in 10 years from now we might have more new parking lots even as old ones get developed. There is also some fun irony (cognitive dissonance?) in the...

    Edmonton | The Shift | 113.08m | 38s | Edgar | MCM Partnership

I don't know how i feel about this. Cladding will really make or break this one, and whatever is currently shown (corrugated?) will look terrible. Really can't wait for this era of of project type to end. Terrible cheap build mid-rise after another, all around the brand new park no-less... and...

Edmonton | Century Gardens at Century Park | ?m | 7s | ProCura Real Estate | Gardner Architecture

That last image is an incredible contrast in how the vision of century park devolved. Those original builds still look great so many years later. They are an anomaly in the city

    West Edmonton Mall

I always imagined the old HMV/Sunrise records would be perfect for a MUJI

Edmonton City Centre Mall (Renovations) | ?m | 2s | LaSalle Investment Management

The collection of retail in there looks more sporadic than mill woods town centre. The vision of consolidating the mall on the east half and letting the west go hopefully one day materializes. The current setup is a bit unbecoming of the main downtown shopping destination of a large city. I dont...

The design caliber of most 6 storeys these days has got me nervous 😶

    Edmonton | Scotia Place Reclad | 113.08m | 28s | Kasian

This reno really 'cheapened' the look of the building. Pretty unfortunate outcome

    Edmonton | Massey Ferguson Building Redevelopment | ?m | 6s | Rise Real Estate | WZMH

Winnipeg actually gets interesting and often spectacular projects in their downtown and i don't think their economics are better than ours. I think Edmonton is really an anomaly in the country with the kind of proposals and projects that it tends to pass as acceptable. I won't paint all...

Edmonton | Century Gardens at Century Park | ?m | 7s | ProCura Real Estate | Gardner Architecture

It's been 20 years now since this started. A concerning timeline for all LRT stops/stations throughout the city slated for TODs. Good to see some glimmers of progress I guess. Re: the parking, I understand it, given the lack of current transit connectivity. There is no nearby bus or LRT...

    Edmonton | The Shift | 113.08m | 38s | Edgar | MCM Partnership

Invoking central London’s density is fine, but without the architectural caliber to match, this can read like Sherwood Park’s Festival Way as well. While it’s tempting to draw parallels to European cities based on massing alone, it is much more than that in what makes a city feel great.

    Century Park Seniors Tower | 54m | 16s | Eagle Builders | S2 Architecture

It's a weird and wild time in Edmonton where the burbs are getting 16 storey concrete builds and downtown is getting 6 storey stick frames

    Fantasy Transit Maps

I decided to geek out and share my expensive fix for the NAIT - Kinsgway - Royal Alex area. I find all the at-grade and overly windy/curved track through this entire stretch to be very slow and a hindrance for all modes of traffic, transit included, so here are two incredibly expensive fantasy...

    Unknown - 10406-97 Ave - Abbey Lane

Yikes. 6 Storey wood-frames have become weaponized in the worst way possible. They don't have to be ugly, but they've certainly made it acceptable to build bottom of the barrel suburban junk everywhere.
