I think there would be demand for spaces like this. Rents in Toronto are still so out of sync with median income that there are probably a large number of recent immigrants, artists, and service sector workers that would be willing to sacrifice having their own living room/kitchen for a rent...

Love how fast these new projects are being constructed without underground parking… parking minimums really were a scourge.

This is fantastic. No shadows on the park. Lots of affordable units. More people get to enjoy a view of this beautiful urban green space. Agreed. There needs to be a balance between preservation and growth/evolution, and some folks just don't like change.

This would have been much better as a bachelor unit. The living space is so tiny that it is only appropriate for a pied-a-terre situation or an Airbnb... a normal adult could never live here.

I'm so sorry but this is truly the worst of the ziggurats... absolutely nonsensical design. And the blue glass on the balconies that matches NOTHING else on the rest of the building... whyyyyyyyyy

Fitting that Toronto, as the city of his birth, will be home to one of his last works (if not the absolute last?) RIP.

Love the design, hate to see that Buvette Pacey's space is included in the parcel.... it's one of the few cute and cool spots in this neighbourhood.

I think the solution to this predicament is to finally pedestrianize Kensington Market!

The landlord wants a lot of $$$ for the rent... if they settle for less, then the asset will lose assessed value. So they'd rather it sit empty than lease it out at *actual* market rent. Restaurant margins are slim. No one is going to go for a space that eats up all their revenue. Speculation...

Thankfully I don't think there is much displacement going on in this neighbourhood. Most of the new buildings are constructed on empty lots, paid parking, low intensity commercial, or gas stations. A majority of the low-rise housing has been gentrified for 30+ years now already (Corktown, South...

No one is going to use that treewalk. Ugh this is the last remaining spot downtown with a sufficient amount of grass so that it doesn't feel weird having a picnic. There's enough space to allow for buffers between groups for some sort of "privacy", and the park is just big enough to provide...

If the City can force midrises to have a ziggurat shape to avoid casting shade on the backyards of a half-dozen NIMBYs, then surely it would be justified in preserving sunshine and a high quality public realm in the community spaces of a marginalized population.

This is the result of compliance with the AODA. If you apply super stringent accessibility requirements without nuance, this is what happens.
