    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

We simply don't know if a majority approve or disapprove, and the reasons you gave are simply conjecture. What we do know is that the majority of people paying attention to the issue and choosing to participate in our democratic process are opposed to the idea. The economic efficiency angle is...

    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

Honestly don’t understand all this discussion about race, gender, age, etc. the people opposed are obviously homeowners because the majority of them are not looking to sell to a developer and like living in their neighborhood. It’s natural that there is fear of change when the benefit...

    Calgary Transit

Max frequency will just take time. They can’t increase frequency because there’s not enough riders to support that since most people own a car. That will happen with time. I don’t think it necessarily has to be MAX, but an in between BRT service that has normal bus infrastructure but much higher...

    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

I agree with what you said. But I also don’t fault these people for voting in their interests. The argument should be how increased density results in less taxes and better services for existing homeowners. Yet the city seems to simply want to say everyone should prefer something against their...

    Calgary Transit

Instead of building these spur lines, we should use those funds for multiple MAX/BRT services to build an actual connected transit network. Too many trips simply don’t work because one portion of the trip require a bus with 30 mins headway. The strength of networks like the TTC isn’t the spur...

    Calgary | Frontier | 30m | 8s | Truman | S2 Architecture

There’s the RNDSQR development and multiple 19th street facing lots for sale that more buildings like 19+2 and Frontier can be built. And that the city improves the 1 bus to a Max Service.

    Calgary Transit

While that’s true, there’s no talk of this type of airport-downtown service in train form either. Our point to point traffic isn’t strong enough to support an UP Express like service (heck even in Toronto it’s mostly used as a commuter service to Weston and Bloor). The reason for the ctrain link...

Calgary becoming the next Detroit: A look 10 years later.

Although Technical and Profession Scientific probably includes a few other field, I was under the impression most of this is O&G related employment? I'm curious how much of that is due to sudden shocks that permanently changed the transportation industry. I'm not familiar with Winnipeg, but the...

Looks to be close to topping out.

    Statscan numbers

Comparing units to per capita ignores that Calgary builds more SFH which have probably double the number of residents as an apartment in Vancouver. They have some ultra dense apartments that are mostly studio and 1bed, which really inflate the unit count.

    Calgary International Airport

Wonder how close or far we are from getting a non-WestJet Asian flight to Calgary. Especially a Skyteam partner that will have good connectivity.

    Calgary Transit

Having taken the one in SFO recently, it is so confusing that even the new BART trains with fully LED route displays, the arrow indicating the direction the train is going was pointed in the wrong direction for that section.

The YVR rail link was also built for the Olympics, there’s not as pressing a demand for a YYC rail link. Most of the well used cities have a lot of international tourists and have good local transit (Hong Kong, Paris, London) and are terrible to drive in. The US doesn’t see as many international...

    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

For a city that mostly developed when cars were available, I noticed Calgary has relatively narrow lots, even compared to Vancouver/Toronto and definitely narrower compared to the US. I wonder if that is just the timing of development? A guess (with no evidence) I have is that the weather...

    Calgary Transit

Direct airport links don’t work with our level of traffic. Even Toronto’s UP Express has been a money loser from day 1 and once they build the GO Extensions and Eglinton West, it might even be closed, or merged with GO Service. It’ll work if the city has a large transit network that traveller...
