There some other issues that I also dislike, such as the diagonal Blue Monster foul territory wall in left field. I feel like this could have been handled better with more careful attention to details.

Is the symmetry going to even be noticeable with people in the stands though? Does it change the experience of the game?

As a fan sitting in the stands this looks to be a much better experience. I guess I’ll see how I feel in a couple weeks.

It's not just Fenway Park - the vast majority of ballparks were assymetrical until the modernist/multi-use stadiums of the 1970s and 1980s. Creating assymetry has been a hallmark of the neo-classical revival that started immediately after SkyDome was built. Beauty may be in the eye of the beholder but to be clear: assymetrical parks are absolutely intrinsic to baseball and symmetry was basically a fad.

Eh. Again, this is subjective and we're looking at a few angled pictures. I'll wait to see how it looks on TV and in person before judging but, again, many of the new ballparks (Yankee Stadium comes to mind off the top of my head) have this sort of staggered/split 100-Level seating. Whether they line up with upper levels... is something I've literally never noticed but I'd guess that, again, it was never typical of ballpark design. I was in Detroit last year and it also has these splits in the aisles, vertically and horizontally (not in an identical configuration but still). It's a subjective criticism of a classic baseball design, it seems to me.

This is less about baseball than money, of course. But it's also a trend. And it's certainly improvement on the jerry-rigged backstop seating they've had at the dome for the past 20 years or so. Again, I'll wait to see it in action before drawing any conclusions. If we could afford to sit there, we'd probably want to be separated from the riff-raff with walls too ;)

I think it has more to do with the height of them more then being able to be removed although was a factor in the design of them. Putting in a permanent foul pole the height it would be needed in the Rogers centre would be a massive undertaking and would probably need it's own footing.

In the instances where the aisles don't line up, they're generally centered with corresponding seating sections in other levels. It looks like there is a little bit of asymmetry in the upper deck at the new Yankee Stadium, however, the new 100 Level seats at the SkyDome are much more haphazard in their pattern. Some of the aisles in the new lower seating areas are at such odd, oblique angles when contrasted with their adjacent 200 Level sections. Anyway, these are just some observations that I've had. I wonder if Buck Martinez shares my sentiments.

I'll say this, having gone to games for 25+ years, the rebuilt 100 level will almost certainly be a massive improvement for the in-game viewing experience compared to the old seating deck. The issue of the 100 level not being completely symmetrical or aligned with the 200 and 500 level sections is a pretty minor qualm IMO considering the net benefit of a much improved 100 level. I don't think the minor misalignment is by choice either; you can blame the round/oval design of the Dome and maybe blame lies directly with the designers/architects who designed the thing almost 40 years ago. In an ideal world, the upper decks wouldn't be circular but would follow the curvature of the 100 level.

If you look at this recent photo though, the incline grade and orientation of the 100 level baseline sections is actually better aligned with the 200 and 500 levels than the previous seating deck was, which actually curved towards the corners and was sort of slanted away from the diamond. It's a pretty substantial improvement and much more baseball-centric.
