An ant has no quarrel with a boot.

Not all ants are passive.............some can and will eat the person in the boots.

For clarity, most species of Army ants won't attack humans, and if they did, you could probably fend them off and survive the attack.

That said, people have died due to army ants, and also fire ants and other species with venom.

Expert reveals how Canada could beat Trump in a trade war

This is a good article. Stuart Trew, a researcher with the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives outlines how Canada could win this trade war with Trump. It includes many of my recommendations. Trew says Canada should lean heavily on EXPORT tariffs on the commodities for which the United States depends on Canada. Oil tops the list. The US imports 4.7 million barrels of oil a day from Canada and the options for replacing Canada involve importing oil from Venezuela or Russia. America's import of Canadian oil at below-market prices allows them to export more of their own sweet crude to the world at a premium price. In essence, Canada has been subsidizing US oil exports. Too bad we don't have one single competent leader to make this case to the American public.

Trew also notes US dependency on Canada for Uranium, Potash, and Aluminum which would hurt US manufacturers. Import tariffs would be targeted to lessen pain on Canadians i.e. it makes no sense to put tariffs on products that we don't already produce at home or can import cheaply from another country.

I hope Canada's response to Trump will look like this, but I am not holding my breath considering how completely useless our "leaders" have been all across the board in countering Trump's threats and insults.

That was a lot of soapboxing when your call to action need only be the above. Danielle Smith will decry that Trudeau Jr. is finishing the job of Sr., but I’m all for it. Trump is trying to divide and conquer.
If I understand your reply correctly the only call for action that I needed to make was putting EXPORT tariffs on the vital commodities that the United States needs. I couldn't make that point without adding context which you call "soapboxing" for some reason.

Maybe they don't like any of your ideas.
Do you have any better ideas? Are we supposed to just accept 25% Trump tariffs on our products while doing nothing to retaliate? Are we supposed to just smile as Donald Trump poaches the few manufacturing jobs that we have left in Canada while he plans to turn Canada into a US territory like Puerto Rico? No full statehood. No Senators (2) and no representative number of Congressmen (at least 50). Just a powerless territory with one nonvoting member of Congress?

The systems are fully integrated - you can’t just switch off the power at the border. And since nuclear generation is always running to some extent, any power not used must be dumped into the ground.
The Ontario grid is fully integrated. The Quebec grid is 100% isolated. And I believe they export more far more electricity to the USA than Ontario does.

Of course, you can just switch off the power at the border. For example, there are automated protection systems that isolate one portion of the grid from problems in the other part of the grid. When these protection systems fail you get the 2003 Northeast blackout that affected Ontario and large parts of the US Northeast. There is no issue with disconnecting to the grid.

The flow of energy back and forth across the border is metered so it is not a problem to add 25% EXPORT tariffs on electricity flowing south of the border. As for nuclear generation, we can throttle down the output by a process of "load following" that limits the amount of steam that drives the turbines and slows down the nuclear reaction within the reactor using control systems.

All of this is DOABLE! Starting TODAY Americans in the Northeast can start paying 25% more for electricity from Canada!

Between massive increases in their electricity bill and prices at the gas pump how long before Americans get tired of "all this winning"? "Please please Mr. Trump stop all this winning ...I can't take it anymore! I beg you"

Your argument is not with me. You were whining that the feds and provinces didn't implement any of your wonderful ideas>

I have sent about half a dozen emails to the PM and Premier Ford and other Premiers and Canadian "leaders" suggesting a strategy to combat Trump's threats, but nothing has been implemented.

The Ontario grid is fully integrated. The Quebec grid is 100% isolated. And I believe they export more far more electricity to the USA than Ontario does.
It's not isolated, but it is not integrated. Quebec power is not electrically synchronized with any other jurisdiction. Exports to the US (I don't know if or how much they import) are through either High Voltage Direct Current which is then changed to alternating current ('inverted') at the point of interconnect, or by Alternating Current which must be connected to the customer (US or Canadian) via 'intertie' equipment.

Ontario could certainly cut-off exports to the US but it's not as simple as flipping a switch. Energy consumption has to be balanced with generation, and it is always changing; that's why wide-area grids are so reliable. Ontario is an importer as well as an exporter and our own demand needs to be balanced. We buy/sell with Manitoba and Quebec, but those connections are government by equipment limitations. Summer is coming.

Nuclear is base load generation. Output can be changed, but not easily and certainly not quickly. Hydro is a little more responsive but has its own limitations. Wind and solar are at the mercy of . . . the wind and the sun. So-called peaker-plants (gas, co-generation) are pretty responsive but I don't know their capacity.
