That seems unlikely, unless they go for less frequent service, given how overdesigned it is for 2025 (we design for the future fortunately).

I'm not sure what this has to do with the TTC. They just drive the trains. The number of cars on the trains is more of a Metrolinx/Crosslinx problem. They can simply order more.

The TTC is expecting to run service significantly above demand profiles initially to achieve minimum frequency standards on the line - I would be surprised if they run into capacity issues quickly. Especially since they have lots of room to move to higher frequencies still before throwing in 3-car trains. Demand is expected to support only 5 minute frequencies but trains will run closer to every 3 minutes:

To even meet demand levels of the 3 minute frequencies, demand patterns need to be 15 years ahead of projections. Plus then you can consider the TTC can run trains well under 2 minute frequencies before needing 3-car trains.. I doubt it's happening soon.

From what I remember reading earlier on these pages, they don't have enough vehicles for 3-car trains, but that capacity is expected to be more than adequate for 2 car-trains for the forseeable future

They would need more trains for the west extension anyways. So they can procure more as needed.

With the Eglinton LRT Line 5 extension into Etobicoke (from Mt. Dennis to Renforth), possible Pearson Airport Transit Hub Extension for Line 5, and the Eglinton East LRT Line 7 (from Kennedy Station to Malvern Town Centre), we should expect increases in ridership for Line 5 overall.

This person (who is in rail construction/maintenance business) said that TTC might be running revenue service at slower speeds to derisk operations, chance of collisions, and increase time between maintenance cycles etc etc. Caveat that they do not and have never worked for the TTC so take with a grain of salt

You need to stop listening to that person's opinion about railway operations, as it's apparent that his expertise is elsewhere.

Last time the city provided an update. They were aiming for longer trains like Finch West but not couple them together to 90m. They’ll save money on shorter platforms for a lower demand line. So it’s not likely they will use these trains.

The demand estimates assumed all those were already open - including from Renforth to Pearson.

Perhaps a bit higher, but the demand west of Jane was poor - and even poorer west (north) of Renforth. I'd wager most of those additional riders are already on the bus, so the addition from Eglinton East will be minimal.

The stations are designed for 90-metre trains. The platforms too as far as I know - at most they need minor modifications.

This. The TTC isn't responsible for maintenance of the vehicles or the line that's all being handled by Crosslinx Transit Solutions Maintenance for the next 30 or so years... There's also no reason to believe that they will be bringing the stated operational rules and habits from the legacy streetcar network to Line 5 & 6 either. The reasons behind those rules on the streetcar network just don't apply to Line 5 & 6. For example, the rule requiring streetcar operators to stop and confirm switch point direction doesn't apply as both lines use dual point interlocking switches and signals to indicate the position of the switches.

They could ask questions in public sessions. The only time I recall this happening in public discussions was the highly important topic of stations names on Line 5.

These compliant board members are part of the problem. Presumably they fear risking their stipend if they make public comments.
