I wonder if the best solution to Eglinton East LRT, rather than trying to recreate the Eglinton-Kingston-Morningside route, is a combination of the McCowan-Eglinton infill suggested by
@Northern Light (no doubt by other people as well) and an upgrade to Lakeshore East GO, with an improved connection at Danforth GO for Line 2 transfers. Spend some time with the remaining RapidTO lanes and work out ways to smooth the bus flow through the chokepoints.
Of course, we would need to avoid a reprise of Smarttrack and the Railpath's questionable accounting. But even if this thing runs 20 km/h, which seems questionable with the TTC hanging around, it's not a lot of travel time improvement for the cost, and it just does not justify the cost of grade separation - GO is half the travel time from Guildwood to Main Street, which would be a good connection if only the frequency was every ten minutes or less instead of thirty.
The downsides to this late night crayon are Malvern and UTSC. Malvern could conceivably be served by adding the 133 Neilson and maybe the 131 Nugget to the 10 minute network. I will admit that I have no solution for UTSC off my head. Otherwise, riders headed to Eglinton or local destinations could continue to ride the bus while those going anywhere west of ~Victoria Park would transfer to GO.
No doubt I will wake up tomorrow morning with another even crazier "idea".
