Venezuelan opposition leader Machado 'grateful' to Trump after giving him her Nobel medal

From https://abcnews.go.com/US/trump-meet-venezuelan-opposition-leader-mara-corina-machado/story?id=129234741
Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado said Friday she was "absolutely grateful" to President Donald Trump after meeting with him Thursday and presenting him with her Nobel Peace Prize medal. The president called it a "wonderful gesture of mutual respect."

"María presented me with her Nobel Peace Prize for the work I have done," Trump wrote on his social media platform. He also said that Machado was a "wonderful woman who has been through so much" and that it was a great honor to meet her.

Machado, in turn, said Friday it "took a lot of courage" for Trump to take action against Venezuelan dictator Nicolas Maduro.

Following the Thursday meeting, a White House official confirmed to ABC News that Trump did accept the medal.

Further details about the closed-door meeting were not immediately revealed by the White House. Asked about the meeting by ABC News' Mary Bruce, Trump said it went "great."

The Nobel "Peace" Prize...

...if it's not awarded to the most undeserving, it's then passed on to the most undeserving. /sigh

Walz, Frey to be investigated for allegedly impeding law enforcement: Report

Federal prosecutors within the Department of Justice (DOJ) are likely to investigate both Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey for allegedly impeding law enforcement efforts in the wake of Operation Metro Surge, which has increased the presence of immigration enforcement agents throughout the state.

They probably did nothing wrong. On the other hand, I am pretty sure 99% immigration enforcement and their enablers are doing is indictable...

...but the federal DOJ doesn't work for the people anymore, I guess. /bleah

Pretty easy way for her to guarantee she doesn't end up in a helicopter in the middle of the night.

I wonder if she kept the money (about $1Mn USD).

Look at this happy smile. Look at how excited the manbaby is. We're witnessing the boy get the exact gift he asked Santa for.

Do you honestly think he cares about the $1M pocket change? He's just happy the Nobel prise comes with the golden frame pre-installed.

My rhetorical question was whether she got to keep the money. A million bucks probably means more to her.

Newly released footage from May 10, 2025 shows Trump’s reaction to Zelensky accepting his ceasefire proposal: Macron: Zelensky accepted your proposal for a 30-day ceasefire. Trump: Ohhhh, good! Nobel Prize. You are the greatest.

Source: French national broadcaster France TV

A couple of things I find interesting about this clip posted by the French national broadcaster France TV: First Trump's preoccupation with the Nobel prize "Ohhh good guys, Nobel prize", secondly when Trump asks, "did Putin accept" Macron outright lies and says "yes". As anyone who has been closely following this conflict Vladimar Putin has been very clear from the start. He will not accept any temporary ceasefire only a truce. He learned from the Minsk Accords "fool me once, shame on you fool me twice shame on me".

What exactly about Greenland is Homeland Defence? Trump's own justification has gone from needing its resource wealth to vague notions of national security he can't articulate himself which apologists (like yourself) and sycophants are trying to fill in for him. And if we're going to say it's the GIUK gap, that's really stretching the definition of "Homeland Defence".

If your want to have this discussion, I'm all for it. Let's start with an actual definition of what constitutes defending the homeland and how far from the actual homeland that definition goes.

For clarification, your argument on the Homeland defence definition isn't for me. Everything I wrote was derived or deducted from the following.

1. In June 2025, Greenland was moved from the EUCOM to the NORTHCOM AOR. Pentagon Places Greenland Under US Northern Command

2. The preamble to NORTHCOM's Mission Statement:
U.S. Northern Command (USNORTHCOM) was established Oct. 1, 2002 to provide command and control of Department of War homeland defense efforts and to coordinate defense support of civil authorities. We defend America's homeland — protecting our people, national power, and freedom of action. Integrated and aligned with North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD), a bi-national command responsible for aerospace warning, aerospace control, and maritime warning, we share a common goal of defending North America.

3. The Biden Administration published the most up-to-date US defence strategy document in June 2024. The Introduction to the 2024 Department of Defense Arctic Strategy by then SECDEF Lloyd Austin states:
The United States is an Arctic nation, and the region is critical to the defense of our homeland, the protection of U.S. national sovereignty, and our defense treaty commitments. I am issuing this 2024 Arctic Strategy to guide the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) in a concerted approach to preserve the Arctic as a stable region in which the U.S. homeland remains secure and vital national interests are safeguarded.

The US DoD, not me, made the linking of Greenland to US Homeland Defence (whether you agree or not).

None of the above recommends or endorses Trump’s current policy of seeking direct sovereignty over Greenland.

Both the CBC and Small Wars Journals have written good pieces analyzing recent developments. Both touch upon Greenland, US Homeland Security, US underinvestment, lack of NATO action, Chinese involvement, and natural resources.

The Strategic Importance of Greenland

U.S., NATO have long history of not being serious about Greenland. That's about to change

Lastly, I have already posted this, but good background on the assessed future threat environment, the Danish Defence Intelligence Staff – Intelligence Outlook 2025

Please don’t shoot the messenger.

I'm not asking about their definition. They just make up shit as they go.

I'm asking about your definition. Unless you're outsourcing your thinking to the Pentagon. In which case, let me know. I can Google their view anytime. And have access to non-public info at work.

Again, in his first term this was about some great resource colony purchase. Having been rebuffed several times, it's now become about "national security". And while the strategic location is understandable, they've but articulated any good reason why the US needs sovereignty over it. Especially given that there's no prohibition on the number of bases and they had 19 bases and stations during the Cold War with tens of thousands of personnel. They drew down to one base with 150 personnel of their own volition.

By this logic, they can claim Iceland and the UK tomorrow and say they need it for national security. After all, apparently all it takes is a strategic location.

Do you just take everything the Administration says at face value or do you have any critical thinking of your own? I'd like to know if I'm just wasting time with a sock puppet.

There @EBT goes... Spreading Putin's narrative he heard on RT and has seen on Xitter slopaganda:
Putin is so reasonable! It's just that the NATO war hawks keep screwing Russia over. NATO keeps tricking him into invading more and more of his neighboring countries, while all Putin wants is peace! Poor Putin-poo, he is so unlucky to be dealing with such unreasonable western counterparts!...
