Politics is all about short term thinking unfortunately. In reality jobs are a bye product of the economy the trick is making sure the wealth is distributed evenly.
I somewhat agree, but would put that differently. It is partly about trying to respond to things people are concerned about, some of these are more immediate concerns.

Canada-China deal
China is expected to lower levies on Canadian canola oil from 85% to 15% by 1 March, while Ottawa has agreed to tax Chinese electric vehicles at the most-favoured-nation rate, 6.1%, Carney told reporters.

Canada will allow only 49,000 Chinese electric vehicles into the Canadian market at the 6.1% tariff rate (which is what we had 2 years ago before Canada increased tariffs to match the US). It represents less than 3% of Canadian auto market. The yearly cap increases to up to 70,000 vehicles by year 5 of agreement. Carney said plan is to move towards production of Chinese EVs in Canada using our products.

The cap is in response to Canadian automakers' fears of an influx of affordable Chinese EVs.

Other countries expected to follow Canada's lead here in terms of new deals with China.

The modest number of vehicles allowed should allay fears that they will flood the market, but it still provides a chance to move ahead on this and resolve the problem.
I had the same thought. This isn't an auto market shakeup, but the Chinese concessions will make a huge difference for Prairies farmers and Maritime fishermen. Rare to see Ontario get "snubbed" in an agreement like this.

The big 3 have been in Canada for around a century. Will they be wiped out? Maybe or maybe not. For now we are still tied to the US and Mexico through geography, history and CUSMA.

Are we instead going to throw out lot in with a country that just a few years ago was arresting Canadians and has been as arbitrary and heavy handed on trade and other things as the US? I don't think so.
Was listening to one on the Michaels on CBC yesterday. He indicated doing business with China was still a good move, if even limited. Until some rational heads are in charge down south trade will be a hit and miss.

I don't understand antisemitism. I really don't.

I can understand people hating on Africans, Asians, Indians and Middle Easterners. But hating on Jewish people? When you have likes of Stephen Mandel, Zack Hyman, Steven Spielberg, Jerry Seinfeld, Gene Simmons and Barbara Streisand? Why?
Is no one else going to speak to this blatant racism? @Gronk! should be banned.

If you want to read it.
