We’re just a squeak ahead of Grand Rapids MI?

Having been in the area many times, I would note that the Grand Rapids metro area is not that much smaller than the Edmonton region and quite affluent. (Most US cities are wealthier than most Canadian cities, in purely monetary terms.) But you'd have a hard time finding a duller city, in my opinion.

I back this assessment. Very pretty, but very ho hum.

IMHO ranking cities on GDP alone has nothing to do with livability.
Yes and this is not even GDP per capita, so cities with larger populations tend to rank higher, although not always. Interestingly and consistent with US higher GDP, Kansas City is also ahead of Vancouver on this list even though the latter has a larger population.

So lets not get too upset Grand Rapids is nipping at our heels. Although it is not quite as big as Edmonton, it is actually much bigger than you might think and it seems to be a fairly significant business centre. According to Google AI:

Grand Rapids, Michigan, serves as the headquarters for major corporations in healthcare, manufacturing and furniture design. Key firms with head offices in the area include Corewell Health (formerly Spectrum Health), Steelcase, Herman Miller, Meijer (located in nearby Walker), Amway (Ada), and Meritage Hospitality Group
