Just back from our lunch at Fennec. Definitely a positive experience - solid service, excellent non-alcoholic drinks (had the bitter orange and it was full on grown-up tasting), fabulous brussels sprouts, and the beef dip sandwich was top notch. Would recommend. Plus it doesn't have that echoing cavern thing going on like so many places downtown where you can barely have a conversation.

Had breakfast at Hathaway's on 124 St this morning. This is the latest to join OEB, Albert's and Brunch Glory for breakfast/brunch places in this neighborhood. Everything was perfect, from the decor to the servers to the delicious food. I'll be back again.

Just a couple of minor critiques:
1. Please provide spoons instead of stir sticks for coffee.
2. Keep the coffee coming.
3. I have this weird habit of drowning pancakes in maple syrup, therefore I could have used more syrup than what was provided.

You could also add May, Malina, Tiramisu Bistro, and Golden Sparrow for strong brunch menus...then a few more casual ones like Farrow, Remedy, and KB&co have decent breakfast offerings too.

The pineapple pistachio pie from Hathaway's is very weird but incredibly good.

Openings
Closures
  • Downtown taqueria Carne Asada is now closed.
  • Also downtown, it looks like Gyu-Kaku is now closed.
  • Takopo’s West Edmonton Mall location closed on February 1. The business will continue to operate its food truck.
  • After ten years in business, Ayesha’s Kitchen and grocery store will be closing its doors.

When I went by last week, Sunterra at Commerce Place was quite busy. That said, they still need to bring back the same exterior seating before COVID, and it's high time they got rid of that unused juice bar.

The cafe and salad bar alone are probably enough to keep them afloat, with how busy they appear to be. I wonder if the Commerce Place location is an outlier?

The southside location was quite busy when I was there a few weeks back. As for downtown. with GoA staff working more in the office that will help the bottom line. Commerce place had a lot of Government offices.

It may not help everything there, but it will help a number of places in Commerce Place, especially the already busy coffee places.
