At the end of the day, there is not a single redeeming quality about the man or those who associated themselves with him. And to put that mildly...
And yet, in a "banality of evil" way, there's something about it all that feels like the enabled-and-enabling long tail of a (phallocentric-default) culture that produced everything from Hugh Hefner's Playboy to Dov Charney's American Apparel, w/a few Led Zeppelin groupie violations en route. *Now* we're collectively noticing it--or the ultimate consequence thereof--is no laughing matter.

Ironically, it's worth pointing out that the (T)KC received mixed architectural reviews when it was built--largely because Edward Durell Stone's New Formalist aesthetic was viewed as meagre and chintzy (i.e. the '71 version of a nouveau riche Trump aesthetic).

Of course, "an approximately two year period of time" would probably guarantee that we have something on the level of styrofoam Skopje kitsch once it's all done. Or, and perhaps more likely, nothing will get built, period, because it's all a scam (and that's where the implausibility of the time frame kicks in)

Whenever these ICE and CBP guys are unmasked in Minnesota they appear Latino, where the usual target is brown and Spanish speaking people. I suppose using Latinos to persecute Latinos gives the whole exercise a whiff of legitimacy, and it divides the Latin community. This reminds me of the Jüdischer Ordnungsdienst (Jewish Police Service) that was made up of Jewish men who collaborated with the Nazis to persecute their own people.

The renovation will include the installation of gold theatre seating and drapery, and gold toilets, urinals, and sinks in the restrooms.
Jeez, the undoing of all this tacky gold painted shite is going to take months. No matter which party wins in Nov 2028, the new President will want this stain scrubbed away.

C'mon, 2 years is plenty of time to cover the whole place in multiple coats of Home Depot's finest golden spray paint.

It makes sense that a lot of CBP or ICE veterans would have Hispanic backgrounds, as speaking Spanish would be a huge advantage on the job.

There is also the fact if they prove they are good Latinos they hope this Administration won't come after them. The fat paycheques where economic opportunities are limited also likely helps. Plus as it has been pointed out elsewhere, they could also have drank the MAGA Kool-Aid too...

...either ways, I am not so sure we should surprised at any of this. As @Admiral Beez-san has noted, there is a historical precedent for this unfortunately.

Justice Department expected to ramp up efforts to deliver on Trump’s ‘weaponization’ priorities | CNN Politics

Justice Department officials are expected to meet Monday to discuss how to reenergize probes that are considered a top priority for President Donald Trump — reviewing the actions of officials who investigated him, according to a source familiar with the plan.
Almost immediately after Pam Bondi stepped into her role as attorney general last year, she established a “Weaponization Working Group” to review law enforcement actions taken under the Biden administration for any examples of what she described as “politicized justice.”
She said the group would focus on investigations into Trump conducted by former special counsel Jack Smith and his staff; Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg and New York Attorney General Letitia James; and any “improper” investigations into the January 6, 2021, attack on the US Capitol.
But after a year, the group has not produced anything publicly.
In recent weeks, Trump has been pressuring Justice Department officials for results in these and other investigations, recently admonishing a group of US attorneys for failing to deliver on cases he wants brought.
The Weaponization Working Group is now expected to start meeting daily with the goal of producing results in the next two months, according to the person familiar with the plan.
Throughout her time as attorney general, Bondi has repeatedly criticized the Biden administration for alleged political weaponization while, at the same time, federal prosecutors brought investigations and indictments against Trump’s political adversaries.
“I took office with two main goals: to end the weaponization of justice and return the department to its core mission of fighting violent crime,” Bondi told lawmakers in October.
A Justice Department spokesperson on Sunday declined to provide specifics around the meetings, noting the agency does not discuss ongoing investigations, but acknowledged the efforts of the Weaponization Working Group continue.
“The Justice Department is actively looking into the areas outlined in Attorney General Bondi’s Day One memo,” the spokesperson said. “The Weaponization Working Group is diligently working to restore integrity to the Department of Justice and is utilizing resources across the entire agency to fulfill this effort.”
