He had time to talk with his constituency, so that may have had something to do with it. Lets see where he ends up in Cabinet. Edmonton and Alberta will get quite a bit of the defense spending coming down the pipe.

Edmonton-Riverbend was also the closest riding in Edmonton to flip to the Liberals, unexpectedly too.

Not yet. Byelections for two former Liberal MPs - Bill Blair and Chrystia Freeland - have to happen and apparently the results in a Quebec riding that the Liberals won by one vote has been deemed by a judge as invalid - so a majority still not the case.

Heather McPherson is a worthy successor to Libby Davies. And if anyone remembers Libby Davies, they’ll know that is an indictment, not a compliment, that includes the party as well the individuals..

This is very disappointing.Matt has been elected as a Conservative six times, twice provincially and four times federally, most recently less than a year ago.A Liberal has never been elected in his riding. So this runs against the clear direction of his constituents.

what is the obsession with attacking Israel and supporting Iranian proxy terrorist groups called Hamas, Hezbollah and Houthi who constantly attack Israel and vow to wipe every jewish person off the face of the earth. Why do groups of Hamas supporter thugs roam jewish neighbourhoods in Canada terrorizing jewish Canadians screaming "death to jews"? Why are crimes against Jews in Canada the most, by far, of any ethnic group? By calling Israel a "ethnostate" Barnaby demonstrates he/she has the intellectual level of Heather McPherson and has the geo political and historical knowledge of a 10 year old - or an anti semite.

He is, to a certain extent, correct here. The highest rates of violent crime are against indigenous people (especially women) and statistically more violent hate crimes (motivated by race) target Black Canadians, but in terms of per-capita hate crimes, Jewish Canadians experience the highest rate of police-reported hate crimes. This trend also predates the current war in Gaza.
There is a fair amount of nuance (e.g. underreporting of crimes in indigenous communities, sporadic definition of "hate crimes"), but you know. Minus the dramatic rhetoric, it's true.

I feel she has some potential as decent NDP leader, but that party's choices now are somewhat limited.
However, candidates and parties including her would be wise to remember that Canadians generally care much more about things happening closer to home than in the middle east.
