Underfunded? They have an overspending problem. Drivers are getting paid close to $40/hr if not more, close to $50/hr on Sundays (x1.25 on Sundays from what I heard), and this includes station collectors, who often gather around together socializing rather than guarding their entrances. I'm not saying they don't deserve a fair wage, but there is such a thing as too much, and when wages are the highest proportion of expenses for the TTC, they need to control their spending first. They've given into most of the union demands. They are not underfunded, they have a spending problem. Not to mention they've overspent on vehicles, especially electric buses, that didn't even perform to expectations. We didn't need "operators" on the SRT. We can automate subways with ATC so that we don't need an "operator" pressing a button. These are choices. And giving into union demands for extraordinarily high wages is a choice.
I don't know where you're living but $40/hour isn't much in Toronto these days. I think a better place to find wasteful spending would be among Metrolinx's 157 VPs.

If anything, Line 6 needs more trams and more operators, though I agree with you that not making the SRT driverless was some TTC nonsense.

Anyone know why the LRT isn't 24 hours? If the streetcars downtown can run 24/7, the LRT should be able to also. Is it a contractual thing?
Just speculating but I'm guessing its part of the 3P contractual agreement. Remember metrolinx and ttc are run differently. Perhaps metrolinx didn't want to pay for the 24 hrs service or the private group (sorry forgot their name) negotiated 24hr service out to save on maintenance.

A bus provides enough capacity over night. Pretty much all streetcar routes can be replaced by buses but they need to keep the streetcars out for yard constraints issues.

The way how the LRT lines operate is they are part of the "subway". Probably to give the hillcrest route mangers some down time and less POOs enforcing fares.

This is great news. I was expecting to see full service hours being delayed until the summer. Hopefully line 5 full hours are coming soon.
I agree it's disappointing that LRT lines don't run 24 hours. When line Don Valley / Science Centre station was built, it had signs up saying it would be open 24 hours, which made me hopeful the line would run all night, like streetcars. That must have been the plan at some point. If Toronto were to ever run their major lines at night, the subway lines 1 and 2 would be the first priority.

I rode the finch west LRT again from Finch west station to Albion.

Distance covered was 8.44 KM in about 34 minutes
This translates to 14.8 km per hour.
This means to travel from Finch West Station to Humber College would be 41 minutes 42 seconds.

Now with removal of Stevenson, Duncanwoods, and Driftwood, extended green lights, and removal of speed restrictions at intersections, time to travel from Finch West Station to Humber College improves to 31 minutes and 41 seconds roughly.

With no red lights travel time drops to 30 minutes.

With proper implementation the LRT could be a reliable transit option. Long term with extension to Woodbine GO Station and a Future Bolton Go Line it would mean that at any point on line people would be less than an hour from downtown core.

Has this been done? I hadn't heard of this happening.

My understanding is that as of today, 3 intersections on Finch W have full TSP operating.

I was also of the understanding that speed limits have been increased to 50km/ph between stops, and 35km/ph at intersections.

I think, at this point, they only shaved another minute or two off the schedule. I imagine there is more to come.
