If Accor wants to put a luxury flag on a project like this, it would make more sense as something like Raffles, Sofitel, or at least another Accor luxury brand, than trying to force a second Fairmont into the same downtown core area, while also taking away a big cultural staple personality of the downtown like Singapore Sam’s. If that rumour is true I don’t even care if this project proceeds lol..

that spot is also only a block from Ska Spa which i’m guessing would potentially get decimated by a Fairmont style spa if that is the one perk of this downtown location. :(

While I hope they can find another location, that areas been trending that way for a couple years now, with Park Central, the buildings on 10th Ave, Imperia, Lincoln, that area is getting gentrified. And never been to Ska but it looks pretty high end itself.

Accor mainly uses Fairmont as the luxury brand in Canada, there's 3 in like a five block radius in Vancouver, with two next to each other. It's got much more name recognition than Sofitel (Europe) and Raffles (Asia). There's one Sofitel in Montreal, but that's primarily because it's a French chain. I find the Accor brands very messy, they're less integrated than Marriott/Hyatt/Hilton. They should keep Fairmont as a classic luxury like a St. Regis, Waldorf Astoria. And have a separate brand name for modern ones like JW, Park Hyatt, Conrad.

What are the chances its on 12 ave where Lacey Court is. (Now home to a daycare). I think that would be a cool spot across from Central Memorial Park.

I think they're building something at Lacey Court already, it's not a highrise though.

So I asked my friend from earlier about Singapore Sam’s.

Yah, it’s going bye bye. They’re moving locations. My money is now on the fairmount going here

well thank goodness they’re at least moving and not just closing shop.. it’s actually such a big reason why I chose to move to Calgary - the vibe that leaves a mark on tourists and residents at places like that late at night isn’t something that can be franchised easily haha.

What I'm hearing is that we should not have rebranded as "Blue Sky City" but instead as "Singapore Sam's City".

I think this goes right up to the corner of 5th Street. We call it Singapore Sam's but that is directly attached to the strip mall.

This is whats throwing me off, people keep referring to Singapore sams but its all one building. I wouldn't be too sad to see that strip mall go. Its a gong show. Can't imagine taking a kid to daycare there when there's 20 junkies smoking meth on the sidewalk
