Side note - the brick building that Cardinale is in is really gorgeous from that angle above. It's more 'everyday people-focused' in size and scale than large structures, and can resonate more directly and quickly with the average person (re: non-architectural nerds) from an urban contextual perspective. I love modern architecture, but I am content that the City, CMLC and the Stampede are showing love and priority to some of the old/heritage buildings like these, and complementing these structures with adjacent facilities that respect this architectural era/style (SAM Centre, Stampede Youth Campus) in the overall plan for the Rivers District. There's some real architectural bungles out there (Cowboys Casino and the original BMO Centre overall are hideous), but this is a niche area of Calgary that has the potential to creatively blend older architectural eras with modern (as is the case with the new arena and its urban context within and around the surrounding heritage/brick buildings). I hope buildings like the one Cardinale is in are more fully embraced and utilized as a gateway into the Rivers District and Stampede Park as a whole.

/\that's such a cool shot, really shows just how gigantic this arena is going to be.
I would give the counter view...that I love how we have an arena that doesn't stick out like a sore thumb, a towering box above everything else. It's double the Casino, but beneath the BMO. win!

It cant be said enough, the old plan was gross...the final version with more space and thus depth to go down....it's a gamechanger for street presence

I wouldn't be surprised if the upper concourse layout changes. We already have beams going diagonally through there that weren't referenced in any of the permittingView attachment 721387
Those are likely temporary for some kind of support, no wall can stretch to the mid-concourse column. That area is the primary upper escalators, it wont be changing. You could in theory see a bathroom flip with a concession, or a concession functionally change....but that's about it.

My dream would be to have a Winnipeg/Hamilton sized stadium for CFL and CPL in the vicinity to add to the vibrancy of the area longer throughout the year

Pipe dream, unfortunately. CSEC want a stadium built with public money that there is little appetite to build, and Spruce Meadows has no interest in playing outside of their grounds. Owning the land and stadium and getting every dollar spent on gameday is what makes Cavalry viable in the first place.

Time for the Southern's to acquire the Stampeders from CSEC. With field size changed suddenly that larger soccer stadium at Spruce Meadows makes a bit more sense (my pipe dream, if the Stamps don't move to the Grandstand).

My dream - have a modular/covered stadium (20,000 seats expandable to 30,000 as necessary) located in downtown's West Village, used as the premier sports venue for Stampeders/Cavalry/Wild/Dinos/Cougars/amateur events/other events, paid for jointly by CSEC/ATCO/University of Calgary/MRU/City of Calgary/Provincial+Federal government/private donors. Promote it as the premiere venue for everything sports-wise in Calgary that isn't the hockey. Let community use it (for a fee) on days where nothing is booked, and work with minor soccer and football and track associations in this regard.

So basically the CalgaryNEXT Stadium again I suppose, haha. Maybe smaller scale though and funded through multiple sources and increasing access to it. But I digress!

I love that idea. And with that many stakeholders working together to fund it, it would actually have a solid chance of happening!
