Side note - the brick building that Cardinale is in is really gorgeous from that angle above. It's more 'everyday people-focused' in size and scale than large structures, and can resonate more directly and quickly with the average person (re: non-architectural nerds) from an urban contextual perspective. I love modern architecture, but I am content that the City, CMLC and the Stampede are showing love and priority to some of the old/heritage buildings like these, and complementing these structures with adjacent facilities that respect this architectural era/style (SAM Centre, Stampede Youth Campus) in the overall plan for the Rivers District. There's some real architectural bungles out there (Cowboys Casino and the original BMO Centre overall are hideous), but this is a niche area of Calgary that has the potential to creatively blend older architectural eras with modern (as is the case with the new arena and its urban context within and around the surrounding heritage/brick buildings). I hope buildings like the one Cardinale is in are more fully embraced and utilized as a gateway into the Rivers District and Stampede Park as a whole.
