How would access to Hanlans work with the expanded runways? Already ferries, boats and water taxis have a wide berth in place from coming too close to the existing runway. A longer runway would only increase the difficulty in getting to the Hanlans dock.
it's a boat, it doesn't have a road it's fixed too.

The NoJetsTO map (it's old and I can't verify the diagrams) seems to suggest the Hanlan's ferry will require a slight detour.

I think what stands out as problematic here is airport access. The only way in and out is limited public transport, a small taxi stand, rental car, or walking.

Transit expansion here wouldn’t be great value for money and swanky jet-setters wouldn’t be caught dead on transit anyway.

I worry the next step in DoFo logic is to build (another) giant waterfront parking structure.

I don’t totally disagree with this view, but even things like a bridge to the island are opposed by the residents.

This reminds me of how a lot of people want the Portland lens to remain a permanent park. We’re in a severe housing shortage, but people are nimbys about having more housing as well?
The bridge to YTZ that was planned 20 years ago, should have included a pedestrian tunnel under the runways to access the rest of the Islands.

Though some people who live in the area had that hope, I do not think that was ever the intention. The aim was to use YTZ for shorter 'commuter flights' and YYZ for longer ones and make it easier to get to YYZ. It IS easier/faster to get to YYZ with UPX but YTZ is closer to lots of travellers so there is continuing pressure to allow longer and longer flights (and thus larger, or jet, planes) at YTZ.
Might as well just revitalize/upgrade Downsview airport now that it has both a subway and a GO train.

Expanding the Toronto Island Airport runway to have jets is nuts. The airport barely fits the Q400s that are there now... where are all these jets going to park? They are going to expand the island airport, limit development in the port lands, reduce the space for boats, and have jets flying around so people at the Therme Spa and Music Garden can experience the zen of whale noises from geared turbofan engines? I think he should go back to focusing on the 401 tunnel.

Doug is busy focusing limiting Freedom of Information Request access, so he can cover up all the internal corruption and current lunatic ideas (ie: such as this one) from his party.

Nothing he does makes any sense.

The petition if you are interested.

The jets they keep talking about using are not that much larger than the current turboprops, less than 5 m longer and less than 10m wider wingspan.
I would imagine the noise of children screaming in the wave pool and water slides at Therme would be more of an issue than planes outside that are quieter than the current planes.
