New Brunswick has spent an outrageously large amount of money on highways for such a small population. A railway would need to be very fast to be competitive against the bus, let alone private cars. It's safe to say the Province has zero interest in passenger rail.
That highway building has an interesting history - and a history of federal funding.
Not really a bad investment, considering the value of the TCH link to Nova Scotia. I can't imagine NB maintaining its economy without it - so a necessity rather than a splurge.
I agree that NB does not have the resources or interest to go it alone with a rail investment, and would certainly not touch the Ocean as it would demand continued federal support.
