Going east to west from the Bentley, to Windsor house, to this, is a perfect encapsulation of how much Edmonton architecture has degraded even just in the last decade or so.

IMO, I feel Windsor House is actually much better than the older Bentley building next to it both in size and appearance so I feel the most that could be said is we have had our ups and downs over the decade.

Although I do appreciate all the density added to the university area as a whole, the amount of turds that have gone up (that University Heights project on university avenue is one of the ugliest things I've seen as of late) is also a cause for concern. It makes me a lot more sympathetic to the Nimbyism of this area, even if it's for different reasons.

It has made me think twice about writing in support of projects when developers continue to show this level of disregard in the design caliber of their projects despite the unit gains. That exterior palette of this building is awful.

Some changes have been made to design requirements since the project you're referring to was approvedcand built (1st generation).
The new requirements were approved in the later half of 2025, so I think those projects are just starting to happen now or soon. Larger windows on the front (to look more like a house) reduced number of side entrances etc.
More changes may be needed.
Without a doubt, the 8 plexes on corner lots allow the most aestheically pleasing look - I've seen several really nice ones.
