Trump on Robert Mueller’s Death: ‘Good, I’m Glad He’s Dead’

From https://ca.yahoo.com/news/trump-robert-mueller-death-good-180458008.html
Donald Trump celebrated the death of Robert Mueller on Saturday, writing that he was “glad” the former FBI director and special counsel who investigated the president’s 2016 campaign had died.

“Robert Mueller just died. Good, I’m glad he’s dead. He can no longer hurt innocent people!” Trump wrote Saturday on Truth Social shortly after MS Now broke the news that the 81-year-old former FBI Director had died.
Mueller, who last year disclosed that he had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s, was one of Trump’s longtime targets. While his investigation did not conclude that the 2016 Trump campaign had actively sought out and coordinated with Russian entities attempting to sway the election, the probe cast a pall over much of Trump’s first term. It resulted in a series of indictments, leading to eight guilty pleas and the convictions at trial of prominent Trump allies, including political operative Roger Stone and former campaign adviser George Papadopoulos.

Trump regularly attacked Mueller over the investigation, alleging the veteran and lifelong public servant was part of a vast, illegal Democratic conspiracy to remove Trump from power. Trump has leveled similar attacks against former Special Counsel Jack Smith, who oversaw the Justice Department’s investigations into Trump’s efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 election, which he lost to Joe Biden, and Trump hoarding classified material at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida, after he left office in 2021.

Trump’s crowing about Mueller’s death is not the first time the president has relished the death of his perceived enemies. When beloved director and frequent Trump critic Rob Reiner was brutally killed in his home in December, the president joked that he died because he had an “incurable” case of “Trump Derangement Syndrome.”

As a Full Metal Jacket fan, I approve of this cover by The Economist :)
The Economist publishes a newsletter each week where they discuss the cover art and present other ideas they rejected. Here are the ones they rejected!

I rather like the last one, his war coming back to bite him!

Trump on Robert Mueller’s Death: ‘Good, I’m Glad He’s Dead’

There's a dispute of whether he actually posted that. But considering all the other things he's posted of late, I am not sure that matters anymore...as each of those are as batshite deranged and/or deprived as this one.

...that is, Trump knows no bottom than his own. And even that is up for debate.

There’s no dispute. I saved you the trauma and went on his Truth Social.

…and yes, I left the shitty ads that display a dozen times on the page

I can’t see how the GOP survive the midterms after this:

The self-centred type who vote for Trump only understand it when they’re personally hurt. They are the type who drive gas guzzling pickups and who will be outraged by a hit to their wallet.

I know Spring just started (though doesn’t feel like it) but I’d gladly skip over Summer to November as soon as possible. The GOP collapse will be delicious to watch.

Sure Trump will have a Dem House to blame for his failures and MAGA will eat it up but his Presidency as we’ve known it is effectively over after January and will be performative going forward because he’s neutered without Congress rubber stamping his insane policies.

I think you overestimate the similarities base on British social structure and legal heritage. Most US immigration from the UK was in the 1600s before the Civil War. Most English Canadian immigration was in the1800s. UK emigration to the USA was driven by deportations, papists, and religious extremists. To Canada it was driven by poverty and opportunity. There's some fundamental differences here.

Beyond that, I think the continued attacks by the USA on Canada and it's former European allies will have changed a generation. And even if that goes quickly, half of this city isn't white. As the situation in the Disunited States continues to deteriorate, and with what I expect as increased use of concentration camps with way too much discretion by racist immigration control staff, then I don't expect travel to significantly increase a decade from now, at least when the fascists are in power - which I don't trust won't be permanent at some point.

I will not attempt to predict the future; thing are changing too quickly these days, and events that would be deemed impossible just recently, actually take place.

However, I think you underestimate the similarities. At the beginning of the Civil War, the U.S. population was about 32 million, less than 10% of its size today. A lot of immigrants moved in since then, for the reasons very similar to those driving immigration to Canada. Opportunity in the new country, and escaping poverty at home.

A wise policy. For decades I never thought I'd be here again.

Though the reason we started this discussion was your prediction that "the drop in the US travel is temporary".

Sucks to be Rubio. Everybody in this administration will be unpopular. The party will just pick an outsider. Like John McCain in 2008.
He has big shoes to fill though...

..er..I'll show myself out again. >.<

Meh. The minute they get some Obama-esque charismatic leader travel will shoot back up. And Obama deported so many people the Republicans called him "Deporter-in-Chief". He was able to do it in a way that didn't threaten the average person or create random risk of detention at the borders. That's the difference.

Not only will travel go up. But like what happened to Biden. I expect illegal immigration to spike as soon as a Democrat is sworn in unless they are willing to stay firm. Biden had a tough time with this.
