Seems easy enough for the city to just spend the extra million on the bridge given the massive amount of development proposed on both side of the tracks. On the other hand it really seems unlikely that the million will make or break the viability of the project especially given interREIT's sale.

While I am usually not pro let developers play this level of hardball on the other hand the city needs to spend much more than a couple million to improving transit to MUP connections over the next five years, especially given the provinces rules against bike lane expansion, so if the developer will agree to a one year time limit to get shovels in ground before it snaps back I feel you have to go for it. Leiper is trying to play both sides with the election coming up and I imagine the cuts will pass at council.

I think the idea is that them protecting artist space should be considered a community benefit, which I don't disagree.

Well, that is a kind of depressing article. I wasn't aware of a pedestrian bridge planned at Laurel st.

If the city balks at extra height and loses the entire development and pedestrian bridge I dunno what to say. Complete waste of everyones time?
As I understand it, the intention is for Laurel to become a pedestrian only road.

Further, when they started the development, there were different contribution requirements. However, midway through the approvals, the laws changed. So now they are saying "why do we have to pay so much more, do something about it please, we are already contributing more than what is required". I tend to agree too - give them a reduced tax benefit or something until the 2 million delta is made up. So, pay it but get paid back over time.

Hopefully they can come to some solution. This would be great density to have located by an LRT station.

Yeah I think there are solutions available here.

It's been a bit of a frustrating project how its been dragged out and at such a great location.

It really should no take that long.
The City approved it once or twice before. Developer came in with more height and a new design last year, then Doug Ford changed a law that triggered the recent round of negotiations.
