Why would you interline the lowest-used portion of Line 1? That would be most unusual. I see no reason not to build it to allow for detours, but this isn't going to happen for regular operations.
I thought this was a good idea in the past.
However I think complexity leads to risks. It also incurs costs.
It is better and safer to use the interlining money to extend the line farther - maybe a couple of kms.
Back in the day, if we would have avoided that 3 platform Sheppard/Yonge station with track connection to Yonge line - how much farther West could this line have actually gone in Phase 1?

Meaning instead of trains going from the wye at Yonge to Sheppard, they would reach the line from Wilson Yard directly?

Yep. Without the wye it would pay for extension to Bathurst maybe.
Then another $100M (back in the day), or 10%, to get to Sheppard West (or Downsview as it was called at the time).

The track connection between the Yonge line and Sheppard is for non-revenue moves only. It was never meant to enable any kind of service interlining.

With Sheppard being a short stubway and having no yard on its own, that track connection lets the Sheppard trains enter the service in the morning, and go back to the yard in the evening.

If the Sheppard line gets extended west and eventually connects to the Wilson yard, then the opposite operation will become possible: some of the Yonge trains will take a shortcut from the Wilson yard via Sheppard in the morning, and then operate as southbound Yonge trains. And in the late evening, northbound Yonge trains leaving the service could use Sheppard as a shortcut to the Wilson yard.

^^^ Not an alignment i have heard of being discussed; though I am aware of at least cursory discussions of going west of Sheppard West, particularly with an eye to meeting a GO Station.

I had heard of something like this being mooted.........(never saw an actual alignment)

One Station extension to meet new GO Station at Wilson.

Since I first heard of these, some time ago, I haven't heard about either again and don't know if either has had any meaningful consideration.

That seems more attractive to me. But there's no need to hit the existing TTC station, given the lines already intersect at the previous station (Sheppard West). Instead I'd put the head house at about 120 metres south at the very south of the existing GO platform. An then put the station box itself even further south, which would include long escalators from the station box north to the head house. I think you could get the station box about 200 metres south of the existing subway station, closer to the north end of that massive old Downsview Park building.

Though I'd ignore the railway completely, and instead follow the original Sheppard aka Carl Hall Road alignment with a station near the tracks, and another near Wilson and Keele.

If you head north instead, you are essentially duplicating Line 6. If you add another GO station, Finch would work better I think, to join with the Line 6 segment between Keele and Yonge.

If they're not opposed to going west of ShW/Allen, as well as tunneling under the airport (let alone building a station in the middle of an active runway, lol), they might as well just do this instead:

Another GO station at Wilson seems far too close to Downsview Park GO.

Ummm, what active runway/airport? There is no active runway here, just a relic.

Very low density.

One question is what do we expect a density map (both employment and housing) look like in, say, 2075. Then aim for TOC.

South on Jane to Bloor would be interesting.
