I would just extend Sheppard to end at Sheppard West station, and leave it at that.

Actually since the runway is no longer active, has there been any discussion of completing Dufferin from just north of Wilson to Sheppard? I just noticed Dufferin is disjointed because of the former airport.

There is a proposal to extend Dufferin to the north then west through the site, but it would not connect to the contemporary Dufferin north of Sheppard.

Yeah, I think that's goofy too.

Just like not re-routing Sheppard through the site on a straight-line basis (the existing road that loops north would remain in my vision, it would just become a major 'crescent'.

This was the proposed road network as of last May (Major roads only)

I hadn't even thought of rerouting Sheppard, but that would make sense. I think stitching back the road network back to what it should be would make ample sense. But instead they've gone for the monstrosity in the diagram you've posted. Why wouldn't they take the opportunity to fill out the road grid? What they've come up looks like something Mississauga or Brampton would (and have) come up with. Something I always liked about Toronto was that it had a better put together grid. This is like, the opposite of that. In my opinion anyway.

I'm not sure what the point of connecting Dufferin to Dufferin at Sheppard would be. Essentially the north bit is just a local slip road for the Allen. And it's the Allen itself which becomes Dufferin.

Unless one wanted to eliminate the Allen between the 401 and Eglinton completely.

A proposal from More Transit Southern Ontario for a Sheppard West subway extension that would serve Downsview Park.

I think Humber River Hospital should be the next stop. A lot of folks would use it, and North York General is on the same line.

Yeah I meant the part of Allen that becomes Dufferin further north. That little Dufferin could just be redesignated Old Dufferin. I'd rather make Dufferin continuous by taking over some of the Allen.

Also, the other jog in Dufferin took a century to fix. Why are they wanting to create another one?

Yep, it always annoyed me that
1) Dufferin couldn't be continuous from Wilson to Sheppard
2) Allen becomes Dufferin not at Sheppard (the most logical point), but at Kennard (some random small side street in between the grid)
3) Some random little street paralleling Allen got called Dufferin instead (I'm fine with it being Old Dufferin if & when Allen is renamed Dufferin north of Sheppard).

Unfortunately it may not be possible to complete the grid by extending Dufferin straight from Wilson to Sheppard/Dufferin due to the highway portion of Allen already filling in that spot at the intersection.

The focus is on Sheppard Subway East Extension to McCowan - to connect to Line 2 Bloor-Danforth Scarborough Subway Extension at McCowan & Sheppard. The whole idea of extending Sheppard STUBway west of Yonge to Sheppard West Station (formerly Downsview Station) is mainly to connect to Wilson Subway Yard - so trains servicing Sheppard East Extension won't need a new & very expensive Subway Yard. Completing the loop connection to Spadina Subway Line 1 is a bonus - as is having the Spadina Subway Line serve as Relief Line for Central North York when Yonge Line 1 is down.

Sheppard Subway West Extension beyond Sheppard West Station (formerly Downsview Station) is not under consideration.

Initial Business Case to be completed in a few months,.... then it's convincing Premier "subway, Subway, SUBWAY" for funding. An announcement for Sheppard Subway Extension(s) - East to McCowan and maybe West to Sheppard West Station,... is expected by year end.

Are you speculating or... do you know something we don't know?

And if you know...are you saying that their are no plans to extend the line to malvern or Stc? Thus paving the way to EELRT

The current Dufferin/Allen (north of 401) is the gateway to the 401. South of it can be eliminated. However all the traffic will spill over to Dufferin (which is already a mess cause of Yorkdale Mall, probably would need to reroute the 29 Dufferin bus), Bathurst (which is already congested and would further turn the 7 Bathurst more unusable) and Keele (which is disconnected south of Rogers Rd). Eglinton West would lose all it's traffic which will probably upset Little Jamaica even more.

Think of it this way, before they built the Downsview Airport, Dufferin was a continuous road through that random little street paralleling Allen. The Allen could have been extended to Steeles and into York Region.

As for the reason mention earlier in this post, people want to feed into the 401 so a continuous Dufferin isn't what the commuters want. For heck of it, they could have renamed the entire Dufferin (north) to Allen Rd all the way to Steeles. Woodbine has totally disappeared from most of Toronto was the DVP/404 replaced it. Dufferin (north) could have disappeared too.
