I'm looking forward to part II of this article related to big money and dark money in the last municipal election.

Candidates who raised and spent the most had terrible results - most significantly Tim Cartmell who between himself and Better Edmonton had $1.48 million versus Knack at $240,000.
Cartmell's Better Edmonton, despite all it's money, actually ran a deficit of $38,000.

Think this is a good spot for this:

Suburbs are going to happen. So why doesn't anyone in the urbanist community push for a better designed suburb?
I'm looking at you, City Hall.

A reminder in addition that Working Families Edmonton, supported by local labour unions, likely spent several hundred thousand dollars in support of Knack and other candidates.

They are registered as third-party advertisers and did support Knack (non-financially), but it wasn't "several hundred thousand dollars". It was likely in the range of $1,500.

All Cartmell had to do to win was have somewhat decent opinions on land use reform and transit like Knack does.

He snatched defeat from the jaws of victory.
