So is that or would that be considered job done or mission accomplished? Not to say Metrolinx did a good job here but is 6 minutes off of the initial advertised travel time a success?
what was the bus travel time before?
capacity was greatly increased as well.
They've been advertising 38 minutes for a while. It was scheduled at 46 at opening.

It's certainly progress. But the schedules are still very long AFAIK - or did Finch just change as well. Cars shouldn't be running faster than schedule unless they are late.

I found this clip fascinating and enlightening. Some urbanists may wince at these ideas but on the basis of economic value, ROI from public funds, and commuter satisfaction, It presents a concept that merits some serious consideration. The figures that he presents and arguments he makes, (if accurate) are very compelling . Latin American seems to stand out when it comes innovative ideas for Public transit. His point about the gain from greater frequency outweighing the reduced capacity is just one of many he made that stood for me.

They have this in Sao Paulo too, it was really bizarre until I realized what it was

Pretty close to where we were expected to get when this was announced, that 33-34 minutes end to end figure.

If so, this may go down similar to the Bombardier streetcar order - boondoggle initially, but then fixed and largely forgotten among the average user
6 minutes longer than the initially advertised travel time is not close to where we were expected to get. 6 minutes is actually a substantial difference.

The curve at Highway 27 is no sharper than can reasonably be traveled at a reduced speed by any generic LRV built to the "common standard", regardless of maker. It was never meant to be a full-speed curve, as that was never a reasonable option at that corner. If I had to point at a number, it seems to me that it should be able to be traversed at about 25km/h - but that's a guess and nothing more.

That said, yes, it does seem to me that they are operating through there slower than they absolutely need to. But then again, they are operating the rest of the line slower than they strictly need to as well.

Is that because of the many historic issues of the Citadis trams? Is that because of Mosaic still requiring the lowered speed limits on the line? I don't know, it may be both.

Dan

Here is part of the explanation. Apparently they did not differentiate the operational rules for line 6 and traditional streetcars in mixed traffic.

Hence why they need to cross intersections at reduced speed and operationally limited due to vision zero considerations.

So I guess they have to now re-classify it as an LRT in order to speed it up.

So because there is a risk that on a straight section 2kms long that a person may "dart across the tracks" by crossing two lanes of active traffic and possibly by hit by a train travelling at walking speed. This is incompetence at its best.

The video was from 3 months ago. There should be an update, hopefully before the warmer weather.

Line 6 seems like it takes just under 40 minutes now end to end
as per this video

leaves Finch west at 22:52
arrives at Humber at 1:02:48
Travel time 39:56 Minutes

And leaves Humber: 1:58:44
Arrives at Finch West: 2:34:55
Travel time 36:11 Minutes

Still doesn't match my roaring 30 minute end to end travel time in December 🤣
