I believe that was the line in the bill that some people brought up saying it would ban bus lanes.
Which i believed at the time was a very pessimistic view of it. Its there just to prevent the cities from playing games with the wording "not technically a bike lane"

I agree. It was there to give the minister flexibility to respond to municipal shenanigans (see Toronto's response to the banning of the Toronto Green Standards in trying to say that the "province banning green standards" didn't actually mean that, and now the province needs new legislation to specifically tell the City off).

Allowing the province to use regulation to expand the list basically means they can adjust as necessary without going back to the legislature. I never saw an intent to do things like banning bus lanes or wider sidewalks.

This proposal makes parking permanent (no rush hour restrictions). It does take some of the space for bump-outs and green infra; I have suggested the plan be rebalanced with slightly less parking and more green/wider sidewalks.
 
For the Etobicoke folks out there, the City of Toronto announced a public consultation for the Elmhurst Drive and Islington Avenue Safety Improvements on Wednesday, April 15 (6:30 - 8:30 PM) at St. Stephen Catholic School (55 Golfdown Drive). The deadline to complete the survey is Monday, April 26.

In such cases you use the closest City street address, but explain if possible.

Just to follow up: I reached out to Danielle and got a call back from a staffer who listened and had some thoughts on my issues.

One thing to note: the section I chose on "obstruction in a bike lane (or city property)" was evidently not the right one. It's a bit like Russian Roulette trying to pick!

Apparently it should have been a "fence repair" request, as those barriers are considered fences and not part of bike lane infra or an "obstruction" as such.

The staffer who reached out quickly changed my request to the right one and promised the issue would be dealt with in 5 business days, which is a lot better than the initial year I was cited in the first submission!

Obviously this isn't the ideal way to go about requests, but one hopes that through feedback and constructive responses the process will be improved!
 
It emails 311 with details the website asks for, and requires city staff to themselves create a service request. But not all required details are always captured, and 311 has no way to ask for more details and staff have said they sometimes just can't create the request because of missing info. There are some seriously legitimate criticisms and deficiencies with the current 311 system but that site is such a naive and ignorant "solution".
I'm quite sure it just uses some AI model to do it as well, which is whatever (here we are!) but I doubt it is an effective solution at all, and likely creates all kinds of weird headaches for staff.

I tried using it when I wrote that comment, figuring if I'm going to berate the idea in the first place I shouldn't just make assumptions, and you're completely right. It uses AI (an LLM), but it also only prompts you to provide a photo (required), a location (required), and write some details...they're optional. I thought I'll just do all the steps before sending it in, because it states "AI-generated report, reviewed by you before sending" above a submit button, except it just submits it without you first reviewing anyway. I didn't even write a description so who knows what it came up with because it never showed me!
 
Far from new but I saw a photo yesterday and was reminded to ask... does anyone know what the metal barriers/fencing on the west side of University is for, I think it starts just south of Dundas and goes past Armory St? There have been times where I'm cycling south and want to turn left onto Armory but realize there are no gaps so I'm "stuck" in the bike lane and have to keep going south and find another way. Or maybe a gap is there now but I haven't been in a while.

More work today on the Adelaide track extension from Parliament. The position of cuts in the street suggests a permanent curb is being installed. There is also a dedicated left turn signal being installed at Parliament since this will conflict with cyclists travelling straight through Adelaide.

There are big cuts on Richmond where a cycle track would go but it’s much deeper and looks utility related, too early to assume what the end product will look like.
