It seems that Chris Moise, the Councilor for the Church-Wellesley Village, is proposing a pilot project to pedestrianize 2 blocks for the summer. The closure would be from Wellesley Street E to Alexander Street.

His timeline is saying that planning started in November 2025 and would last until May 2026. And that it would be installed as soon as June 19.

No official moves at City Hall or council. Creating a thread to discuss it (and gush about how much I want this as I live there.)

Link to the TorontoCenterProjects page.

They also created a Survey at this Link.

Larger closures were considered but were pushed off for future years. Apparently, after "conversations with numerous internal and external stakeholders."

Note how they were trying to figure out the connections to the Anvil Lane parking lot.

There is an information and engagement page on Toronto Centre Projects' website: https://torontocentreprojects.ca/en/projects/church-street-pedestrianization-pilot

They have a survey: https://torontocentreprojects.ca/en...phase_id=30c5482e-247d-4bf6-b394-6c87b5911179
It only took me 4 minutes to fill it out

There's also a petition: https://win.newmode.net/campaigns/experiencethevillage

The project/item is heading to Community Council on April 30

Rodney Chan who's involved in the project has posted a few other details: https://bsky.app/profile/chanface.bsky.social/post/3mjdhvoefn22y

Ok, I have to say, the councillor's survey participation requirements are beyond obnoxious.

First, you have to provide his office an email and agree he can 'push' you emails at will.

Then you have to fill out detailed demographic information, which can obviously then be linked to any other info you provide the councillor and which could be hacked.

Absolutely not.

I am very excited for this to happen and the positive changes it could bring to the area. I participated in the survey (despite the annoying steps to get to the actual survey)
