The Madison-Lenox Hotel, one of the 10 most endangered buildings in the United States (according to the National Trust for Historic Preservation) is being illegally demolished for a parking lot.

Work started by surprise early today.

If there was no pratical use for the building, or no one was willing to renovate it, then I don't really care if it is torn down.

Well, if they keep tearing down the "useless" buildings that could once again contribute to the urban fabric, then the parking lots become quite useless as well.
 
The Fox is the only building that I know of that the Illitches fixed up. The rumours are that the Aztec-style art deco United Artists building on Bagley (owned by the same people) will be the next to go.
