    VIA Rail

I don't think the affected cities are going to do anything until VIA comes back with a firm yes/no. It's going to be a waste of money to do preliminary work for a replacement service if randomly VIA comes back and says 651 is coming back. VIA's strategy is very unpredictable. This...

    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

I was using drugs as a proxy for minor offences on the TTC. Minor offences scarcely make it to trial. Public urination and people injecting themselves on TTC vehicles aren't necessarily criminal code offences either (unless they're charged as mischief, a can of worms I really don't want to...

    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

The court system is massively congested. This was true even before the pandemic and is now even worse. I'm not as familiar with TTC, but with the CBSA, most people who smuggle low quantities of drugs are let go because crown attorneys deem that it's not worth pursuing given the backlog. It...

    Metrolinx: Presto Fare Card

I've been taking the GO Bus recently and I noticed some weird quirks with the fares on some of my trips: Route 41 from Scarborough Town Centre to Richmond Hill Centre is $5.13, while it's $3.70 to go to Highway 407 (you can transfer onto the 66 and take it to the carpool lot at 400/Major...

    VIA Rail

It doesn't, but if let's say you have a meeting, class, appointment, etc. and you're 100% going to be late for it because of a delay. And you're still lucky enough to be in GO's coverage. Then, It's good to have the option to turn back and return to Toronto. This actually happened to me a couple...

They are, at least that's what service managers tell me when I get delayed. I never got fare inspected, so I'm not 100% sure.

    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

Orange = Existing Platform to be retained. Red = Existing Platform to be removed. Green = New platform extension. In an earlier post, you said you weren't overly concerned with WiFi. The TTC is already trialling wifi on bus routes. They seem to want to expand it permanently across the bus and...

    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

But there's already wifi. The only things I can think of, that you can't already do over the existing free wifi, that 5G in tunnels will enable are voice calls, and live streaming. If you disallow these two things, it defeats the purpose. My phone connects to the available Wi-Fi when the train...

    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

It's possible to make phone calls to any phone number (not just 911) underground today over the wifi with the Big 3 today via Wifi Calling if you have a VPN (BAI might be blocking it if you don't use one, idk). https://www.bell.ca/Mobility/Wi-Fi-Calling...

Is someone actually walking down the tracks with a hammer and bashing the signals between Finch and Sheppard?

I bet $100 that at least one screen will be cracked before the end of the year.

    Metrolinx: Presto Fare Card

Fwiw, on transit agencies with contactless credit enabled, using Apple/Google Pay feels faster, and I haven't had any issues with the readers not reading my phone properly... I can't wait until virtual presto cards come out.

    Metrolinx: Presto Fare Card

It's a recipe for broken telephone because you have three dev teams Metrolinx (Toronto), S&B (Germany), and Accenture (India) working across three different time zones on the project. Hence, a lot of Accenture people got work visas to work here.

    VIA Rail

There are only 2 Renaissance sets left on the corridor (barring any unannounced retirements). They were also parked for most of COVID, they also haven't been west of Ottawa for the last 6 years at least. If the LRCs and Budds go, VIA might as well close up shop on the corridor until most of the...

It also means that you're chances of catching a Renaissance train on the corridor are quickly coming o an end...

    Metrolinx: Presto Fare Card

Did you hear about how they delegated some of the software development to Accenture in India and it had to be redone?

    Metrolinx: Presto Fare Card

The Thales and S&B readers are 2-3x more expensive than the Famoco readers. The readers are replaced every 2-3 years because of wear and tear anyways. The S&B readers were rolled out around the time the iPhone 6 came out, iPhone 4 for the Thales readers.

It seems like under the new program, points will be "like cash" for tax purposes. When you redeem PC Optimum points you have to pay sales tax (gift certificate). But not when you redeem McDonald's reward points (marketing materials). There was a case between the CRA, Aeroplan, and CIBC that...
