    VIA Rail

VIA also has another problem which they generally ignore................they have to decarbonize their fleet. There is no way, in hell, that Ottawa will demand the people and businesses spend money and effort to reach net-zero by 2050 and yet gives one of it's key Crown Corporations a pass. We...

    VIA Rail

The best thing about GO to London is that it would force VIA to upgrade the Windsor-Aldershot portions of the line increasing the speed, frequency, and reliability of the service. London is the fourth busiest station in the system and Windsor seventh. We have already seen GO take a bite out of...

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

Thanks for another great video Reece. With all due respect, your video doesn't cover what 99% of Toronto transit users want to know from Metrolinx..............how much is it going to cost to use the service? All the improvements in the world will not mean anything to most people because they...

    SmartTrack (Proposed)

.. I know that they will announce it with the winning bidder but that means Torontonians will end up getting the trains that best suit the bidder and not necessarily the transit rider. Think about it, it's been 8 years since they announced electrification and people still don't even know what...

    SmartTrack (Proposed)

No, the entire system should have 100% fare integration. When you have to pay extra to go between the same two places then that is 100% two-tiered transit.........better and faster service for those that can afford it and squat for those who can't. If the government decided to spend the same...

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

New development from London............ MegaBus already offers frequent service from London to Toronto and now a brand new bus service is about to start. ONEXBUS which will offer 6 return trips. It looks like this will serve more communities between London & Woodstock. Having 2 regular bus...

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

^^ There already is a new micro-transit system connecting commuter cities to the City including Woodstock & Tilsonburg via Ingersol and Sarnia via Strathroy. Surprisingly the busiest potential route of St.Thomas to London doesn't exist but ST Transit is working on one to have regular bus service...

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

A GO service in SWO to London would be great for people in greater London, far more so than Kitchener. Unlike Kitchener where you can get downtown on a freeway from any direction, London has no urban freeways. As fellow Londoners can attest, getting to the city core is a gut wrenching experience...

    GO Transit Electrification | Metrolinx

Even if you think that electricity supply is 100% guaranteed and you never think wires will ever be damaged, a limited battery system is still the preferred option. Battery power supply allows for easy zero emissions expansion to new areas without any new infrastructure at all. This means RER...

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

With all these under/overpasses, will the core area of GO be completely grade separated? I'm not taking about GO commuter but rather just the RER sections.

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

As far as GO to London is concerned, it may excite some Toronto rail geeks such as us but to Londoners it will mean nothing. This is a commuter service and for the vast majority of Londoners who are trying to get to downtown Toronto, it is simply far too slow.

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

CN & CP will have to decarbonize their network but there is no way, in hell, that they will do it thru catenary and/or battery. These are very heavy 100 train cars that have to be able to go thousands of km thru all types of terrain and weather and anything but hydrogen is a complete no-go. They...

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

Yes, ridership is a function of service quality but that is only half the equation. Good service quality means little if the system itself is not accessible and due to the lack of fare integration, it is financially inaccessible for hundreds of thousands and especially the transit dependent.

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

All day service to Hamilton is certainly nice to have but I don't think it will really get much ridership and due to this, it could start bleeding funds from other services. Until they bring in full fare integration, these off-hour improvements really don't mean much to the average person. For...

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

March/2022? That means that ML has only 3 and a half years to electrify 300km of track, receive an entire new fleet of vehicles, potentially redo stations to ensure level boarding, do all the substation work, and train the staff? At ML glacial speed, Torontonians will be lucky to have RER by 2030.

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

Didn't exactly know where to pose this question so this thread looked as good as any..........................When will the actual announcement be made about who the winner bidder is? With the announcement will we also know exactly what types of trains and technology they will use?

    GO Transit Electrification | Metrolinx

Mercer Rail which is the suburban rail network of Greater Liverpool, has just completed their trial of battery trains and they stated that they exceeded all their expectations. The transit provider wants to completely de-carbonize their system but didn't have the money to put up catenary in all...

    Proposed renaming of Dundas Street

I very rarely wade into anything on this site than transportation but in this case I had too. I find this whole notion about renaming everything as utterly absurd. I bet 99% of Torontonians had absolutely no idea that the road was named after a person but rather being the road that took you to...

    GO Transit Electrification | Metrolinx

True the batteries are an extra weight to haul around but conversely those batteries can be fully charged overnight when hydro rates are vastly cheaper as opposed to catenary that buys most of it's electricity at peak times and hence at the highest price. Battery trains also have the advantage...

    GO Transit Electrification | Metrolinx

Battery trains also have the advantage of being able to continue their route if there is a power outage or a problem with a specific area of the catenary wiring especially during bad weather caused by such things as ice or wind. This is a draw back of wiring..............it's not as reliable...
