    GO Transit Electrification | Metrolinx

ALL battery trains are catenary trains. Battery trains have been around for well over a 100 years. Why some think it's some form of new technology is simply beyond me. Full catenary for core parts of RER certainly but ALL the new trains should also be able to travel a decent distance {at least...

    GO Transit Electrification | Metrolinx

^^ Very cool and looks like a really affordable way to electrify a system. Metrolinx better prepare themselves for a MUCH higher bill to put up 200km of catenary. Prices are going thru the roof worldwide due to parts shortages and shortages of skilled labour. Prices on the new London area and...

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

I don't blame ML or QP for not expanding service right now. The province just brought in their new integrated fare system for the 905. It is reasonable that they don't make any irrational changes to the service levels until they see what the implications are for ridership. I also don't mean...

    GO Transit Electrification | Metrolinx

^^^^ I agree but perhaps I should have been more clear. ALL trains, cars, entry/exit, and station should 100% accessible. As far as I'm concerned anything less than that {especially in a system like GO which is being essentially changed from top to bottom} is a non-starter. What I was referring...

    Toronto Toronto | Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

Let U-turns have been used very successfully and especially when they are employed not only on the street the train is running down but also the streets they are crossing. They have also proven themselves to be very safe and especially for pedestrians as they get rid of all pedestrian/car...

    Toronto Toronto | Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

ML could have solved much of the left-turning problem if they had done what other systems {like LA} and created light controlled U-turn lanes. Unfortunately, due to ML's lack of vision and planning, such is not the case. What this UofT student says is exactly what everyone else knows is going...

    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

The MP Highway will do nothing to reduce the heavy traffic on the 401 between the 402 & 403 and especially the transport traffic. A 402 extension would help divert some of that traffic. The transport traffic thru greater London is extremely heavy on an already traffic plagued road. Seeing VIA...

    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

^^^^ I disagree. If the original 402 design for the northern part of London occurred then I could see it as it would basically be a straight route. I think if they one day decide to extend the 402 it would be to connect London & Niagara allowing cars and transports to completely avoid Hamilton...

Yonge Street Revitalization (Downtown Yonge BIA/City of Toronto)

Just curious if there was any updates or has this just become another dust collector?

    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

Halljackey is quite correct, the 401 was suppose to go further north roughly between Southdale & Commissioners until St.Thomas bitched. In fact it was suppose to take that route and continue to Woodstock NORTH of Ingersol and Dorchester. The 402 was suppose to go thru the north end of town and...

    GO Transit Electrification | Metrolinx

Dallas DART, which is LRT but functions more like a suburban service, has 2 different cabs on the same trains. The original stock requires steps to board like current GO but due to ADA requirements, had to have level boarding at the front of the trains with an disabled electric extension much...

    GTHA Transit Fare Integration

You have to remember that these {really cool} graphs are for COMMUTER traffic. The whole point of all this GO expansion is to take GO from an exclusively commuter rail system to a true regional rail connector that is a viable, affordable, frequent, and reliable service for all times of the day...
  13. S

    GTHA Transit Fare Integration

Besides the obvious cost savings, another great benefit is the simplicity of the fares. Now you don't need a math degree, a calculator, or spend half an hour on the Metrolinx website trying to figure out your fare as you go from one jurisdiction to another. Now all your have to know is the GO...

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

I actually think GO not changing it's schedule is a prudent move, Co-fares are starting in just a week and it takes time to see the impact it has on ridership not only on individual lines but also the times of the day. It would be shortsighted to change the schedules now only to have to change...

    GTHA Transit Fare Integration

^ Conversely, as the system electrifies, it may make QP more inclined to get people onto GO as opposed to taking their buses for longer distance trips.

    GTHA Transit Fare Integration

So if I get this right {and I'm probably not} from here on in all you do is pay the GO fare except for Toronto? If so it makes calculating your fare a lot easier than what it does now which for some journeys requires a math degree,

    GO Transit Electrification | Metrolinx

Depending on their usage, many of them should be . There is no reason for them for commuter rail systems like the big DD GO fleet but for RER they definitely should be as it is, essentially, a subway-lite system and hence should have subway-like train access.

    GTHA Transit Fare Integration

When reading further, I noticed that London Transit riders are not included in the fare integration. It wouldn't really effect anybody because no one takes the damn thing anyway. No one who takes transit can take the GO anyway because the train leaves BEFORE London Transit starts operating...

    GTHA Transit Fare Integration

I noticed that fares on shorter trips have been reduced so now the price from Scar to Union is $3.70 as opposed to $3.10 for the TTC. Perhaps they are working out a deal where such a fare would be the same. Still, this reduction especially with no transfer fees will REALLY help make the system...

    GTHA Transit Fare Integration

Well it's not full integration but it's a good start. As far as the TTC not being including, I bet that has more to do with the TTC & Toronto than it does with QP. The TTC has never shown any interest in fare integration. I am, however, a little lost on how it would work. If I'm going from...
