    GO Transit Electrification | Metrolinx

I don't seem to recall mentioning battery trains in my post. Assuming they don't use battery, Metrolinx better get a move on. Not only do they have to put up 250km of poles by 2026 but also the transformer stations, order and get the trains, and train the staff to run them. At the glacial...

Interesting development out of Germany in terms of hydrogen trains.......... Siemens has worked with DB and have begun marketing their new hydrogen trains {Talgo is already working on theirs to be out by 2023/24} and the 3 car trains have a top speed of 160km/hr as do the new HydroFlex trains...

    GO Transit Electrification | Metrolinx

There is a difference between using standard EMU and electric locomotives. The locomotives don't have the de/acceleration levels that the EMUs do and if you look at some of the pics of electric trains running along corridors by Metrolinx they show 2 level locomotive trains.

    GO Transit Electrification | Metrolinx

This whole debate is such a joke as is a clear example of Metrolinx incompetence. Only in Toronto would the citizens be still wondering what kind of trains they will be boarding, what kind of electrification will be used, and what the fares will be on a $13 billion project 7 years after...

    London Rapid Transit (In-Design)

The merchants of downtown London have taken a pounding in the last few years. First, the complete reconstruction of the the flex street Dundas Place and as soon as it opened 18 months ago, COVID hit. Now just as the city is starting to reopen again, the Downtown Loop is under construction on...

    VIA Rail

When I talk about London service I am not talking about the route via Kitchener but rather Aldershot which is far more direct. This route is as direct as it could be and is only 180km. As noted above, restoring the Brantford Bypass would do wonders. UrbanSky............You state that the...

Are you seriously comparing little Ganonoque and Trenton to London?

    VIA Rail

That VIA is "studying" HFR West means nothing. They have been studying HSR for 40 years and we know how far that has gotten them. They should not be studying London extension because it should have been part of the original proposal and well before QC. The fact that it is not in the CURRENT...

    VIA Rail

I would not think this is an issue if it weren't for the latest developments. VIA has given the GO ahead for GO service to London and obviously that service will increase dramatically over the next decade and beyond and due to GO service from KW all day soon coming, VIA has effectively begun...

    VIA Rail

One new development {and a damn scary one} is the new Amtrak proposal that would go ahead if the US Infrastructure Bill passes. One of the new routes Amtrak is proposing is a Chicago/Detroit/Toronto one and it clearly shows on it's website that it would make stops in Canada including the big...

    GO Transit Midtown Corridor

Comparing Canada & Europe in terms of freight is disingenuous at best, laughable at worse. Canada handles more tonnage of freight every year than Germany, France, Italy, UK and Spain..................combined! In other words, it's easy for European transit systems to negotiate around freight...

    GO Transit Midtown Corridor

The Mid-town Line is an excellent idea as it is the only viable option for getting across the city without going thru Union. If the Eglinton Line was a true "crosstown" than Mid-town RER may not be as high a priority but the reality is that it isn't. It has too many stops {both at grade &...

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

You can't be serious. The GTAH is home to 40% of the Cabinet. What's more is that 14 of Ontario's 16 Cabinet Ministers are from the GTAH with the other 2 positions going to one in Ottawa and one in TB. Pet/King/KWC/Guelph/Nia/Lon/Wind however all got left out in the cold. When it comes to...

    GO Transit Electrification | Metrolinx

^^ I know they do nothing for carbon capture as I clearly stated. They don't remove any GHG but they do clean out good old fashioned pollution which, in highly polluted cities especially in the developing world, is a big deal.

    GTHA Transit Fare Integration

Metrolinx has abdicated it's responsibility when it comes to fare integration and it's Torontonians that are paying the price. Even if ML can't yet figure out how to coordinate all the systems together in a fair and easy to understand fashion that all transit agencies will accept, it does have...

    GTHA Transit Fare Integration

Technically it's great news but the reality is that this conversation between Brampton and Toronto should not be taking place because this is Metrolinx's job. The whole point of Metrolinx is to coordinate transit in the entire GTHA so you don't get these one-off attempts making the fare system...

    GO Transit Electrification | Metrolinx

^ Exactly. It's no better for actual CO2 emissions but it does clean the air and in highly polluted cities, that is a big deal as their car ownership levels will only increase.

    London Commuter Rail Discussions

^ I agree as the route is much faster. There are also a LOT more commuters from Dorchester/Ingersol/Woodstook than there are from SM/Stratford if they ever decide to make it a London commuter service and run the trains the other way. Again, if this is just a trial and GO has made a firm...

    London Commuter Rail Discussions

What I found interesting is how it was repeated that Metrolinx is working with VIA. Needless to say that as the London GO service expands {which is certainly implied}, it is nothing but bad news for VIA. VIA has already lost a lot of once KW riders as GO has expanded rendering VIA almost useless...

    GO Transit Electrification | Metrolinx

The really cool thing about hydrogen is that, unlike battery/catenary, which is net zero emissions, hydrogen is MINUS emissions. Neither produce any GHG emissions when their energy source is green but all hydrogen vehicles use filters as the suck in air to produce electricity from the fuel...
