Shoppers has their Halloween candy out already too. At least the one on Pape does.

    The "School District" question

I didn't know that Riverdale had FI. My child goes to FI in the Riverdale system but after Earl Grey middle school, we have to go to Malvern in the Beach for high school. ETA: I just realized that Riverdale is a pathway for grade 4 and 7 FI entry but not for SK FI entry. There are now too...

Oh, I haven't been to El Sol for several years. Love that place so much. The lineups used to be crazy and the service is so slow but the food is exceptional, as is the sangria.

    The "School District" question

I was recently sitting next to a woman from Oakville at a work-related event. She was telling me she drives to the office (downtown Toronto) because she has to drop her daughter off at Etobicoke School of the Arts. I was "huh, I thought you said lived in Oakville" (she had spent some time...

Very disappointed about the garden centre.

    Riverdale

It may be from the 80s - I had googled and they have very similar signage at Brigantino's in Windsor so probably the two are related. I have no idea how long the Windsor restaurant has been operating though.

    Riverdale

Hey, I have a question for some old-timers in the neighbourhood. I've lived in this area for 21 years and have attempted to google an answer but have never come up with anything. What was in the area between the train tracks and north up to Strathcona before Blake Street School, the low-rise...

I noticed this place is closed now. The woman at V Nails told me the landlord doubled the rent so they moved elsewhere (North York, I believe). This leaves 3 empty shops on that block.

    Leaside

I live in Old East York but within walking distance of Leaside. When I was on maternity leave, I used to regularly walk to and from the shops in Leaside (a 20 to 45 minute walk dependent on where you are going) because I didn't want to pay bus fare for such a short distance. In fact, most of...

    Your thoughts on French Immersion?

I registered my child in SK FI (TDSB) and I'm happy with the decision; she is now in grade 1. She doesn't have an affinity for languages so I think the earlier the better for her as I don't think she would be successful in extended French starting in grade 4. My real reason for FI was offering...

    Your thoughts on French Immersion?

Yes, the TDSB makes it almost impossible to find information. You have to do a lot of digging to find where they actually store information. Scroll down to the links at the bottom of home page then: Community How to Get Involved Community Advisory Committees French as a Second Language...

    Your thoughts on French Immersion?

The TDSB seems to be keen on maintaining the English stream in most schools; I was very surprised to hear that Winchester was moving to FI only because that has not been the TDSB's practice for other neighbourhoods. Our home school (in East York) has been at times redirected to Winchester so we...

Does anyone remember the stolen windows during the reno? http://www.thestar.com/news/crime/2010/09/28/stained_glass_windows_stolen_from_heritage_house.html I wonder if they were ever recovered?

I will be really really sad if they actually close.

    Your thoughts on French Immersion?

You used to be able to back into the schools feeding into each of the FI schools by clicking on the resulting FI school but they seem to have removed that function. It seems as if you can only enter home schools and see which FI school they feed into. There have a been a number of schools...

It looks like the Leslieville Cheese location on Donlands closed. I was driving by so didn't get a good look but the location has been removed from their website. I'm really not sure how they kept that location open so long.

    Toronto Life neighbourhood rankings

My neighbourhood, Old East York, jumped from #75 to #16. The shopping didn't get any better than the poor it was 2 years ago, we didn't get closer to the subway and we didn't get a Starbucks, ha. To our benefit, the neighbourhood elementary schools such as William Burgess and Diefenbaker only...

    East York-Old East York

I finally tried Chicago Eatery today. Good food, no beer (?), and we were there for an hour and were the only patrons in the entire time. I'm not sure how busy it is on weekends but if they have a lot of days like today, I don't see them staying in business too long.

    Leaside

There have been a couple of kids killed after being hit by cars in the past 3 years in Leaside. Too many cars currently on the road that are driving too fast is a major concern. People want a safe neighbourhood and increased density means more people and likely more cars.

I always go to the LCBO in Leaside (on Laird). It's much easier to park there than at Coxwell and O'Connor. I have no idea how they'll get enough parking spots for an expanded store.
