Historic photos from Toronto on this day

I recognize this picture almost immediately. This is DEFINITELY on Dundas and Sterling because of one reason: Bloor doesn't have a street angle like that when heading down Sterling from that end. Plus, I pass through this part of Toronto twice a day on my way to work and back. The tall building...

Miscellany Toronto Photographs: Then and Now

I almost walked by that area yesterday when I took an evening stroll, which was the result of those pictures above, and more on Queen. In fact. I'm going to post a Then and now that I took on Queen, just a few blocks away! Then. Some ooold furniture building on the Northwest corner of Queen...

Miscellany Toronto Photographs: Then and Now

Yes, a 2nd post from me.. There was a gas station at that corner!? Nothng exists of it today. Looks like the current Ali Babas was a convenience store back in the day. Heres the same gas pump looking west It looks like most of the buildings on the south side got majorly renovated/demolished...

No Guarantees on that. I might go beyond that boundary and take some pictures on Manning and Euclid north of Dundas. I won't go past Yonge though. Is South of Bloor and West of Yonge a better for you?

Correct! I was on a streetcar. I always take this streetcar when I'm going home from work. I assume between A and C right where the tracks curve. It's more than likely that St. Helens used to be slightly longer. Maybe JT can tell us as I was not even born yet.

Miscellany Toronto Photographs: Then and Now

Then. 1778-1780 Dundas Street West April 28, 1939, before the Jog removal. Now. March 2011. Guess what I'm on when I took this!

    Evocative Images of Lost Toronto

Hmm, you can see streetcar tracks turning onto Avenue Rd. here, but it suddenly disappears after that. Was there a streetcar loop in that area? -edit- nm, I see them, sneaky City of Toronto decided to pave over them tracks! Lack of Trolley wires turning onto Avenue Rd. proves it

I see that Bedford Park School already exists. It got major upgrades later. I know this because I went there for school during my elementary years!

Miscellany Toronto Photographs: Then and Now

Now that I look at this. This building is probably the Empress Hotel's cousin? The front looks almost similar. Too bad it was the first to go. Heres the same building from another perspective

    Evocative Images of Lost Toronto

National Cash Register was later converted to Knob Hill Farms, and then No Frills took 97% of the building down to put their own. Only the East facade of the National Cash Register building remains. I also noticed that the Street Tag says St. Helens. Which means the building was definitely...

    Evocative Images of Lost Toronto

I believe its where the Sunset gas is now. It probably got demolished for the unjogging of College Street into Dundas. Samples of its cousins are slightly NW of this building, but not in THIS configuration. Heres the same building facing NE

Miscellany Toronto Photographs: Then and Now

I have another to upload once I get to work. Saving this space for it. -edit- Then: 60 Manning Avenue, July 21st 1945. I believe this house was torn down for what you see on Google maps. Google Maps perspective: Now: March 2011, undergoing a THIRD evolution.

I'm assuming you're pointing to either 120 Manning Avenue or the rear of 105 Manning avenue (the shack) I took these two because they're literally not even one minute from where I live. Oh and I live in a semi-detached house, and NOT a condo fyi.
