    Toronto Toronto | Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

^ Not sure how to feel about that. He is doing well for the most part. But, new ideas and new approaches are needed from time to time, and usually that requires new people in charge.

    Eglinton East LRT | Metrolinx

I agree, connecting the Crosstown with Eg East would be of the greatest benefit. But, that might be difficult, according to the post by Northern Light: https://urbantoronto.ca/forum/threads/eglinton-east-lrt-metrolinx.28180/post-1832504 And, according to Steve Munro's article...

Is Tory even going to run this year? I heard he wasn't interested in the 3-rd term, but that was long ago.

    Eglinton East LRT | Metrolinx

Probably in the fantasy land, but if it can be funded then I would try something like this: Assumes that Sheppard is converted to OL type technology, or another kind of mini metro. Then it can be combined with Eg East. It would run elevated along Eglinton, Kingston, and Mornigside. Segment...

    Eglinton East LRT | Metrolinx

Sheppard east of McCowan has very little density and, moreover, has no significant feeder routes. A few townhouses at Meadowvale, and the Zoo with its highly seasonal demand, that's about it. If it is an LRT loop, Eglinton - Kingston - Morningside - back to the Sheppard line, then taking the...

    Eglinton East LRT | Metrolinx

"Metrolinx provided a different account, however, with agency spokesperson Anne Marie Aikins saying in a statement to the Star that the province hasn’t changed the alignment of the subway since 2020, and “protections are in place” in its design to allow for an extension of the Crosstown into...

    Eglinton East LRT | Metrolinx

I guess this makes sense. If an streetcar is standing at the intersection, then it gets a brief "through" phase for the streetcar only, then the regular left-turn phase, and then the regular "through" phase for all vehicles. Cutting some stops sounds reasonable. But slashing 1/3 of the trip...

    Eglinton East LRT | Metrolinx

I am thinking of a modified version of the latest LRT design: The Eglinton and Kingston Road sections retain the close stop spacing, as the city wants. So, it can support multiple highrise / midrise buildings, and doesn't require parallel local bus service. The travel along this segment won't...

    Eglinton East LRT | Metrolinx

How exactly would you make it "amazing" - give it a permanent green and block the cross streets with a permanent red? Even if there wasn't a single car anywhere near Spadina, you would need a) enough time for the King, Queen, Dundas, College streetcars, and the Harbord bus to cross, and b)...

    Eglinton East LRT | Metrolinx

Or, maybe that's the TTC's firm position - "we want to cut the bus service hours and we will only run the buses to the closest LRT stop" .. If this is the case, then indeed there is no point building this LRT. Keep the curb lanes, or build a median BRT; this preserves the bus branches.

    Eglinton East LRT | Metrolinx

In this case, we might have a crappy report, rather than a crappy project. I agree that transferring from a local bus to LRT first, and then to subway at Kennedy, is an added hassle and will not appeal to the riders. However, nearly all bus branches that operate in the Eg East corridor today...

    Eglinton East LRT | Metrolinx

I browsed the report one more time. Something is fishy with their ridership modeling. Intuitively, EELRT should result in a ridership growth. That line is going to be in the right place, with multiple connection to transit backbones: Kennedy Subway, Eglinton GO, Guildwood GO, Sheppard / McCowan...

Sheppard Line 4 Subway Extension (Proposed)

On the other hand, Sheppard didn't make it into the latest batch of four (OL, SSE, YNSE, Eg West). He wanted to spread the projects somewhat evenly across the city: south, east, north, west. That kind of disqualified Sheppard East, because the east is getting SSE. Hovewer, he could pick...

    Eglinton East LRT | Metrolinx

Technically, the same transformative effect can be achieved without any new transit line at all, or with a BRT line. Just rebuild the street and repurpose the lanes :) Not sure it can be seen as a benefit of LRT specifically. Of course, if LRT is needed anyway (the forecast demand exceeds the...

    Eglinton East LRT | Metrolinx

Yep, that's the concern. Did they perform the study with the intention to get something built in that corridor? Or, just to enrich our massive collection of stillborn transit plans ..

Sheppard Line 4 Subway Extension (Proposed)

I think, no sooner than in 2024. Aiming to make headlines for the 2026 elections.

    Eglinton East LRT | Metrolinx

Very good points, I did not realize this. If their idea of "nimble" LRVs means 2-car Flexity trains but not 3-car trains, then indeed, it is still substantially more capacity than an artic bus. Still would prefer a connection to ECLRT. Then they could, say, run 1/2 of ECLRT 3-car trains to the...
  18. R

    Eglinton East LRT | Metrolinx

That's possible. But if so, then they mis-modeled the case. A valid comparison between their Base Case and the LRT Option should have all other transit lines being the same. I.e., RapidTO buses with the SSE extension in place and diverting some trips, versus EE LRT with the SSE extension in...
  19. R

    Eglinton East LRT | Metrolinx

Waterfront East, for sure. That should be top priority. Density is being added there, and there is no adequate transit. Queensway and St Clair, maybe. But I'd add it to a longer list of projects to choose from: - Extending both Eglinton and Finch to Pearson - Extending Finch from Keele to...
  20. R

    Eglinton East LRT | Metrolinx

All of the above must lead to one of three possible conclusions: Either, LRT is not a good option for the EELRT corridor. Or, LRT is a good option, but should be designed differently. Or, LRT is a good option and the design concept is fine, but the authors of the report made mistakes in their...
