    Calgary | Rivers Edge | 20m | 6s | GBS | NORR

The route through Beddington was really the only feasible alternative but that ship has sailed long ago. CP actually evaluated this back in the 60s but rejected it in favour of the ill-fated proposal to re-route the tracks alongside the river: A good read for any history dorks interested in...

    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

There are development setbacks from landfills and former landfills for sensitive uses like residential and food service. As you can see on this map, only a couple former landfill sites have been built upon. Health concerns aside, there would be significant geotechnical challenges for any large...

    Roads, Highways & Infrastructure

I still think she's going to have some type of spectacular meltdown and be replaced as leader prior to the election.

    General Construction Updates

I think this is a more recent iteration of the design: https://calgary.skyrisecities.com/forum/threads/calgary-1520-m-38s-grosvenor-mckinley-burkart.24234 Last I heard was Grosvenor had the site up for sale, but don't think that ever happened. Maybe they decided not to exit the Calgary market...

Not bad - but Beltline still needs an ODR.

Word on the street is that this is being demolished.

    Calgary | Calgary Event Centre | 36.85m | 11s | CSEC | HOK

Not necessarily - as long as it's designed well. Look at Landsdowne for example.

Calgary Bike Lanes and Bike Paths

I don't think having bikes on 8th really makes sense. There's too much pedestrian traffic and it makes thing worse for both peds and bikers.

    Calgary | Calgary Event Centre | 36.85m | 11s | CSEC | HOK

A CalgaryNext style project on the Vic Park bus barns / Remington site makes some sense. Could even coordinate construction with the green line and have an integrated station.

Calgary Bike Lanes and Bike Paths

Converting 5th to a one-way southbound would be the best way to do it - then you could easily extend the existing bike lane and still maintain parking.

    Infill Development Discussion

Sounds like Chinook needs to bring back the Woodward's Food Floor!

    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

Well they did do one of the most successful office developments in the city. I know that was a while ago now, though.

    General Construction Updates

It's unfortunate that the master plan is unduly influenced by the 8 existing single family homes along 26 Street SW. That should be the highest density corner of the site - ideally Brookfield would acquire those parcels.

    Taxation and Density in Calgary

I dunno I think it's actually probably the least suitable inner city SFH area for more intensive development (along with Scarboro). Irregular street grid, undulating topography, nonuniform lot shapes - all of these present functional challenges to intensification. If they ever redevelop the area...

    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

Yeah you’re right, same as what’s on 13th. It’s a resilient plant that grows like a weed so fingers crossed!

    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

Blue oat grass I beleive. We will see what they look like after a few years of zero maintenance by the city!

    Taxation and Density in Calgary

I'd say it's more correlated with density. Housing in 60-70s suburbs like Canyon Meadows, Willow Park, Glendale Thorncliffe etc. is very desirable and consequently much more expensive than in new build communities, yet these areas are still relatively unproductive in terms of property tax...

    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

It probably won't survive either - it usually doesn't make sense to mandate boulevard soft landscaping in front of high pedestrian traffic buildings like this. If not trampled the grass will be killed by dog pee. Montana and Emerald Stone down the street have replaced theirs with astroturf...

    Calgary's Homeless

Read up on substance induced psychosis - it's not a coincidence that we've seen an increase in random violence and social disorder alongside the rise in meth over the last decade.
