    Richmond Hill Toronto | Yonge Line 1 North Subway Extension | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

It is true that a number of residents will be upset, no matter which station is skipped. IMO, the main issue here is that the extension is funded with deficit financing anyway. I understand it can't be limitless, but the cost of skipped stations seems to be relatively affordable compared to the...

Most of them will take the subway. Although it is a pain to walk 1+ km in rain or cold, that's not as much pain as driving in that area. But they will complain, like a lot. Many of them are not future residents, but existing residents. They will be very "pleased" to find out that for all the...

    Richmond Hill Toronto | Yonge Line 1 North Subway Extension | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

Cut-and-cover for the whole length of Yonge may not be possible; both because of the curvy route and the desire to go under the East Don where it crosses Yonge. Plus, Yonge between Doncaster and Clark goes over the CN mainline; not sure if cut-and-cover will work for that configuration. But...

IMO, the Royal Orchard station is a nice-to-have one. Can be skipped or postponed if the funding is an issue. However, both Clarke and Cummer are essential. I don't even know how to choose one of the two if only one can be retained. Both are needed.

The existing service between Finch and Steeles: - Most of it is provided by the TTC's frequent buses # 53 and 60. We can discount the 53E and 60E which do not stop before Steeles, but even then, the local branches of 53 and 60 make a very decent service. - The 42 Cummer and the 125 Drewry are...

Speaking of redeveloping the green spaces .. one can maintain that Golf Courses take lots of space and serve relatively few people, and therefore should be moved away from the prime land near major transit lines. But, wouldn't you want to convert them to public parks, instead of just build...

    Richmond Hill Toronto | Yonge Line 1 North Subway Extension | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

It would be strange to aim for densities, and then drop either Cummer of Clark. Once the subway opens, frequent bus service along that stretch of Yonge will end. From Finch to Steeles, it is almost 2 km. What are the residents of all towers in between supposed to do, if there is no Cummer...

Tunneling under the houses, per se, may be acceptable if it is safe. Still surprised that the curved alignment of Option 3 is considered more cost effective than the straight Option 1. The tunnel in Option 3 is not much shorter than in 1, the total length is a bit greater, where is the huge...

    Roads: GTA West Corridor—Highway 413

Indeed. If there is no apparent public support, then why would they want to spend the funds.

Sheppard east of McCowan may get LRT that runs to Malvern Centre. More for the sake of Malvern service than for Sheppard itself. It is true that connecting to the Ellesmere corridor will be easier with the Sheppard line's diversion to STC. But in case the Sheppard line doesn't go there, it is...

The interchange doesn't have to be in the place of highest density. At the northern end of the Yonge line, North York Centre station has more density around it than the Finch terminus, yet all connecting routes go to Finch. That doesn't seem to be a problem. In Scarborough, I can see benefits...

Certainly doable, but the destination in the west isn't obvious. If it only runs to Midland or to Kennedy and has a couple of stops serving the western edge of the STC cluster, then for sure. If the LRT is supposed to follow Ellesmere and York Mills .. the connection to Yonge subway will be...

Actually, the colors look great! And I like your route from Neilson to UTSC. Originally I thought of it being placed right next to the 401, on its south edge. But now I see that Neilson + Military Trail makes more sense.

Danforth Line 2 Scarborough Subway Extension

"City Solicitor Wendy Walberg explains Toronto is legally prohibited from working on any projects that are “substantially similar” to the Scarborough subway." Is a busway "substantially similar" to subway? What about a busway that only runs from Kennedy to Lawrence, and is supplemented by...

Danforth Line 2 Scarborough Subway Extension

Got it. Well, the elevated guideway running from McCowan to Midland is, apparently, too narrow for the buses anyway. If desired, the city can convert it into a park, or park + bike path. The other part of the route, that starts at Kennedy and runs north at the surface level, should be...

But which idea do you consider ridiculous? Converting the SRT route to busway? Or converting it to the bike path in the future?

    Transit Fantasy Maps

Very cool map! Two notes: 1) Why not add a direct LRT connection between Malvern Centre and the McCowan&Sheppard subway terminus? All the tracks already exist in your map. And that direct connection will be the most popular LRT route in the north-east. The "5C" route on your map may be useful...

Danforth Line 2 Scarborough Subway Extension

https://stevemunro.ca/2021/02/07/recycling-the-srt/ Apparently, one benefit of converting SRT to a busway is that the buses can run straight into Kennedy station and use the former SRT loop. No need to exit the busway at the south end. Once the subway opens and the busway is no longer needed...

    Mississauga Toronto | Hurontario-Main Line 10 LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

Someone should think about the poor LRT. I don't know the local situation, maybe that short shared section of Main St never gets congested, and then the lane sharing is just fine. But if it does get congested .. the autos often can bypass the congested segment easily, just make a couple of...

Danforth Line 2 Scarborough Subway Extension

It is sad that we spent 7 years since 2014 just flipping from 3-stop to 1-stop and back, instead of finding ways to build this extension in a cost-efficient manner. The Lawrence station becks for a more intelligent solution than just pushing it closer to the magma layer. Likely too late now...
