Havana. Faces and places. March 2015.

Thank you beemicha; glad you liked it, I did take it, and all the rest too. It's tough to take an ordinary picture in Havana, and I consider myself only a level above a holiday snapper. The place is a full of interesting people, buildings and moments.

Then. 1927. 2587 Yonge Street. First time on the internets, this picture. This is UT-er Oldcamera's grandfather's shop. His gramps' shop was across the street from my gramps' laundry at 2616, so they must have at least waved to each other on occasion. How neat is that? :) Thank you...

Thank you Goldie. No place to rest weary legs in those days. Even now many of the new glass shelters have - what - two? - seats?

Right. A search of the Toronto online archive using "annex" brings up many pictures showing the smoking ruins of the Annex building dated May 9, 1977. The Annex was just to the right [south], out-of-picture, on my Then picture.

Then. Old Eatons warehouses coming down - late 70s, or 1980ish? Just incredible to me that the work is being done by hand - look up on the roof. Now. March 2014. Eaton Centre Marriott hotel on the left. Church of the Holy Trinity at centre looking even better. Bell Trinity Square on...

"... east side of Kennedy Road, approximately 300 metres south of Highway #7, in the Village of Unionville." Went to Google street view again for this one. Not much there now - a plaza with a Beer Store, if my distance estimating skills are any good... Went to your link and read the...

"Gusky began his explorations above ground, photographing the abundant remains of WWI on the surface—bunkers, trenches, field hospitals and more—that remain scattered from Champagne to the Swiss border. Over time, Gusky developed close working relationships with local WWI enthusiasts...

And don't fire up your EZT MARC 350/16T at home. I know you have knob and tube in that old place of yours. :)

J T, On the home lighting front; I have noticed the disappearance of 100W incandescent bulbs from most store shelves. I only see 40W and 60W. Horribly inefficient the 100W may be (and short of lifespan) but the warm colour (yellow) they give off is perfect for living spaces with traditional...

Thank you for coming to my rescue, casca. I did make a hash of assumptions in my original post. :( As a reward, please go for a walk around Yorkdale mall - in 1966. http://www.britishpathe.com/video/new-super-super-mart/query/toronto Helpful tip: when finished with this video, lot's...

So the World's Biggest Bookstore on Edward Street is almost all gone now, and an old sign has come to light on the south wall of 328 Yonge Street. I suppose as they peel off more cinder blocks we'll be able to read the whole sign. I'll go by in a few days and give an update. I'm frankly...

Nicely renovated and repurposed; you can see the individual condo unit owners rooftop spaces. I had no idea it was that old. Neat 'find', Goldie.
