    Edmonton | Encore Tower | 138m | 43s | Westrich Pacific | Dub Architects

The cruelest irony given that one of the biggest contributors to urban blight is empty CRUs. If these developers would just lower their lease rates and fill the units, the whole area would become considerably more appealing allowing them to creep the prices up. Instead they’re all just in a...

Man the east end of downtown is suffering right now. I walked down there to go to Bianco and it’s so depressing. Everything looks run down, and the vibe was legitimately scary in some places.

My partner hypothesized that it was in part to cover the giant mural that references a nonexistent restaurant. I want to see the completed design before I judge.

Edmonton VS Calgary - Rental Pricing

Exactly. It’s not news that you can buy cheaper condos in Edmonton, the frustrating thing is that you can get way more for your money in Calgary. There is clearly demand for newer buildings, but they’re pricing people out of them. …why?

Edmonton VS Calgary - Rental Pricing

Why can’t we be in a world of hurt with beautiful condos and vibrant street life 😭😭😭😭

    Edmonton | Horne and Pitfield Building Redevelopment | ?m | ?s | Limak Investments

I personally really hope this gets built as depicted. It’s basically exactly what is needed there. I wish it was partially a hotel too. (I now see it likely is) I think people who don’t live on 104 patronizing the area will be good for retail.

    Edmonton | 121 West | ?m | 10s | Regency Developments | DER + Associates

It’s honestly just because it’s new and it’s affordable. Rent prices in Edmonton are so wildly out of step with the quality of the units.

Edmonton VS Calgary - Rental Pricing

But. Why are they still building them there when they are supposedly financially unfeasible at those prices? The prices would indicate that there is unmet need in Edmonton. Why are developers building beautiful towers in Calgary for $1800/mo lease rates when we get Falcon…?

Edmonton VS Calgary - Rental Pricing

But that doesn’t really make any sense - the fact that the prices are higher would indicate demand exceeding supply, yet what I always read here is that the reason they aren’t built is there’s not enough demand/prices are too low for it to be worth it for developers. Calgary is showing that new...

Edmonton VS Calgary - Rental Pricing

Multiple times on this website I’ve seen this notion that Edmonton does not have the demand for “luxury rentals,” or that Edmontonians are unwilling to pay the kinds of prices required to have beautiful rental buildings. I’ve seen this justified by everything from the claim that we don’t have...

    The Parks | 146.91m | 45s | 35s | 13s | Pangman | Hariri Pontarini

I’m really sad to hear that the portion fronting Jasper Avenue is years away. That MoneyMart/Knoxville’s/Queen (…pizza? Apparently? It’s hand painted over donair) is such a blight. Such a hole in our “Main Street.”

I agree but there’s already Rosso Nero and District (assuming it ever reopens) so close by. I don’t know how much third wave coffee we can fit in the area much as I’d like a Transcend to open there

The Starbucks in Canterra Place is closing down :( totally papered over. I hate Starbucks but I will miss that one. It really activated that street corner.

Edmonton City Centre Mall (Renovations) | ?m | 2s | LaSalle Investment Management

I am trying to temper my excitement for this proposal. Walking next to Pacific Centre in Vancouver, all I could think of is how ECC could basically be the same idea with the new LRT running next to it. This has so much transformative potential for our downtown.

    Edmonton | Connect Centre | 56.3m | 16s | ONE Properties | DIALOG

This Is basically my opinion as well. Edmonton needs to focus on making its downtown core (this represents the city to most people) into a desirable place to BE more than a desirable place to work. Downtown Vancouver is honestly a pretty good example of what to do, a lot of the best parts of...

    Edmonton | Lewis Farms Community Recreation Centre | ?m | ?s | Saucier + Perrotte

I don’t understand why we can seemingly only get architecture like this in the middle of nowhere. Why couldn’t the head branch of our library look like this....?
